  1. Upgrading to windows 10 - installing it on new harddrive

    Hello!

I currently use windows 7 and I got it installed on a 64gb SSD drive, but the space is a problem as the drive keeps filling up.

I bought a SSD which got 250 GB, and I want to take advantage of the free windows 10 upgrade, however, I want to install in on my new SSD drive for more space, how do go through with this?

    :)

  3. Installing Windows 10 on new harddrive

    Hello,

I currently have Windows 7 on an old SSD. I want to get the Windows 10 upgrade but I am getting a new SSD drive for my computer.

Is there a way for me to get the upgrade but install it on the new SSD once I get it? I have heard you can put the Windows install on a USB drive? How exactly does that work?

    Thanks.

you will have to install and activate 7 first then upgrade, I had to with my wife's computer I used an old copy of 8 for hers.

  5. you'll have to clone the smaller disk to the larger disk with a cloning program (to ssave current documents and personal files) then open disk management to check the actual size of the larger disk if all the drive isn't allocated extend the windows partition to utilize the unallocated space then upgrade to 10...
or install 7 to larger disk download updates to 7 wait til the free upgrade icon appears in the sys tray then upgrade by waiting til it downloads in the background or see if theres an option to start the upgrade process in windows updates
once 10 installs as an upgrade they say you can then install 10 as a clean install tho I don't know how

  6. To clean install Windows 10, download the media creation tool from

    Windows 10

create either a dvd or usb and start the computer with the media. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Why do all of this? I guess you can, I backed up all the word files and what ever on an external HD, I use chrome so nothing to back up there, then clean install of older OS, activate upgrade to 10 and then reinstalled programs wanted, move files back and installed any drivers wanted, done. As far as partitions to restore from 10 back to original I thought you could not with 10?

Okey so easiest way is to insert my new SSD, clone my current system (windows 7) into that new disc and then do the upgrade on that one?

Should I just insert my new SSD into an available slot, but after then cloning, can I then just remove my old 64 GB SSD where my current windows is installed, and just put the 250gb SSD in that slot and my computer will boot normal, then I can upgrade?

I dont have my windows 7 installation disc either so...

Yep just install 7 on the new ssd and activate with the Windows 7 license you have, then upgrade to 10 for free, then clean install 10 after that if you want, but really there`s no need.

Why do you want to clone your old 7 install ?

When you upgrade to 10 it will not be a fresh install in the sense as we say a clean install.

If you want a fresh install, first you upgrade 7 to 10, verify it`s activated, then you do a clean install of Windows 10.

A fresh install is just that, an install with no data, no programs, no updates, no problems.

But unless you had some serious problems that carry over from 7 to 10 for some reason, there`s no real need to do a clean install.

If you do clone make sure the install on the new ssd is activated and working perfectly, and if you have a system reserved partition, that has to be cloned too.

Seriously, I wouldn`t even clone, I would just install 7 on the new ssd, activate, and just upgrade to 10 using the Media Creation tool method (Step 3) it works perfectly.

Post a shot of Disk Management and we`ll tell you what has to be cloned.
