Windows 10: Upgrading Windows 10 32 bit to 64 bit Toshiba Satellite Pro S500 BSOD - Kernel Security...

As Toshiba provide 64 bit drivers for this machine and it is a x64 processor I assume that the machine is capable of being upgraded.

All the current updates are installed and there are no issues while running the 32 bit system other than it is diabolically slow and very low on usable RAM.

I have tried several recommended fixes.
Including CMD BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY
CMD sfc /scannowand running Windows Memory Diagnostic all of which came back clean!

Still while attempting the upgrade I get the same error code.


At this point any suggestions short of throw the damn'd machine away! would be most welcome.

Windows 10 Upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit

So, Windows 10 Upgrade is being rolled out worldwide, and I have 'reserved' my upgrade.

Currently my computer is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I'm planning to 'upgrade' it to Windows 10 64-bit (via fresh install, of course).

After reading many references, these will be the steps I'll do:

1. Let the "Get Windows 10" app upgrade my OS to Windows 10 32-bit
   
2. Note the activation key
   
3. Download the Installation Media for Windows 10, but choosing 64-bit instead
   
4. Perform a clean install
   
5. Reactivate using the activation key in Step #2
   

(Of course I'll backup my data first.)

However, I still have some questions:

1. On Windows 7, the activation key does not differ between 32- or 64-bit versions. Is it still so with Windows 10?
   
2. Will I be able to download a different architecture on Step #3?
   
3. Is there anything I need to prepare beforehand?

Change kernel 32 bit to 64 bit

To be able to change Kernel from 32-bit to 64-bit, we suggest that you
reinstall Windows 10.

Upgrade Windows 10 32-bit to 64-bit.

You have to do a "clean install" of Win 10 64 bit. There is no "upgrade" process from 32 to 64 bit.

Did you have Win 7 Home or Pro. There is no "free upgrade" from Win 7 Home to Win 10 Pro. You have to do that upgrade in at least 2 steps:

Win 7 Home to Pro to Win 10 Pro

OR

Win 7 Home to Win 10 Home to Win 10 Pro

The 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade is a separate additional step.

Run the WinVer command. What Version and Build do you have?

If you have Version 1803, many people have reported "accidental" upgrades from Home to Pro by MS. But that "upgrade" doesn't work!
