Windows 10: Upgrading Windows 10 Home to PRO with an old Windows 7 Ultimate key

Greetings I hope someone will be able to help me understand what I have to do to upgrade my Windows 10 Home to PRO. Here is some background: I have an old laptop with Windows 10 PRO on it. It came with Windows 10 Home OEM but I've used my old Windows 7 Ultimate retail key to upgrade it to PRO. Now slmgr /dli shows that it is retail. Recently I bought a new laptop with Windows 10 Home on it. I would like to transfer my Windows 10 PRO license from my old laptop to the new one. From what I have gathered I have 2 options: 1) On my old laptop I have to link my license with my microsoft account and after that I have to run a activation troubleshooter on my new laptop and select option that I have changed hardware on my device. 2) I could just use my Windows 7 Ultimate key to upgrade my new laptop from Home to PRO. Is this correct? Are those options accurate? Are they the only options that I have? What will happen with Windows 10 activation on my old laptop if I use same windows 7 ultimate key on my new laptop? Do I have to do something beforehand? Deactivate it somehow?

no TRWOV u can't use Ultimate key on Pro but u can download a free Windows 7, if that's the problem.

No - Typically as far as I know, a Windows 7 Ultimate key will unlock Windows 7 Ultimate.

The thing is basically what is on the INSTALLATION disc is usually exactly the same no matter what version you buy, ALL the potential content is already on the disc, and it is the Product Key itself that tells the installer what options to install/how to install them, so that you land up with your specific product.

Take an Ultimate DVD, install , but enter a windows Home key, and you will most likely get a Home install.

you can upgrade, but not downgrade win 7.


so you can install home premium with no key, then slap a HP, pro, or ultimate key in later to 'upgrade' - you just cant install ultimate, and downgrade later.
