Windows 10: Upload of mp4 video to Onedrive fails unusually

I've been able to upload videos, images and other files to my OneDrive public folder, for others to view, on many occasions. Recently, upload of 2 files one an mp4 video, 31Mb, and the other a zipped version of the mp4, about 5mb, and both fail after a few seconds of upload. see screenshot of the failure report for the video fileThere is plenty of drive space available and no error message of any sort is displayed - just that the upload failed. This has been repeatable, after re-starting the browser and over several days after shut down at night. The same occurs for the zipped version of

Uploading photos and videos to OneDrive

Videos can only be uploaded to OneDrive one by one in the built-in apps on wp8.1 from the 'circled arrows icon' share option after selecting a video.

- I suggest install the 'Files' app by Microsoft or maybe 'Total Commander'.

Both apps allow multiple videos to be selected and uploaded to OneDrive, or to be shared or copied/moved elsewhere. Total Commander is more nerdy with more options.

Very very weird: trouble with MP4 playing in OneDrive

I use the OneDrive website to share photos and videos. Today I uploaded an MP4 video that was produced by the same camera as all the previous videos I've uploaded. Unlike
those, however, when I clicked on this one in OneDrive, instead of playing it, OneDrive opened a dialog box asking me where I wanted to download it. The file played fine in Windows 10 Media Player. I checked previously uploaded MP4s in OneDrive to see if there
was a systemic problem, but no: those still play. I refreshed the browser window and tried again, with the same result. I did a Web search and found three suggestions, none of which applied. Then, I realized what was different about this file: it was created
by trimming the original MP4, using the Windows 10 Photos application.
That must be the problem, I figured. So I uploaded the original file—and the same thing happened when I tried to open it. BUT: now the file that I originally uploaded was playable! (I could tell it was going to work, because when I refreshed
the browser window, the trimmed MP4’s thumbnail now displayed in OneDrive; the original file I trimmed it from did not show a thumbnail.) So now I don’t have a problem. But I do have a mystery. What happened?

 

Playing MP4 files

MP4 is a container file, a lot depends on the codecs within that.
MP4 can be played with Windows 10 with Films & TV, Photos, Windows Media Player, and VLC.
If those can't then there must be something odd/unusual in the file.

Right click the File > Properties > Details Tab.
see if that gives you more info, should be some info on the video/audio but not codecs.

Try the suggestions from post #3.

You have to be careful as viruses are propogated by people simply changing the filename extension and auto-forwarding via an infected PC and a compromised address list.
So a targeted scan with AV is necessary for every file attachement even if apparently from someone you know.
