Windows 10: Upon installing update KB5043145 the built-in fingerprint in Dell 7440 stopped working

Upon installing update KB5043145 OS Builds 22621.4249 and 22631.4249 the built-in fingerprint in Dell 7440 stopped working this happened in 2 laptops so far

Windows Hello Fingerprint not working

This is still not working after doing all those steps, please help after the Windows update it stopped working and it says the following : we couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with windows hello fingerprint.

After taking all the steps you suggested on here it says i have the latest update.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Follow these steps to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

• Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the driver

I suggest you to try uninstall the fingerprint
drivers check if it works for you.

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
drivers:

• Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset and Fingerprint
drivers.

Method 3

If issue still persists, I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Fingerprint
drivers in Compatibility mode and check if it works:

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
driver:

• Press Windows Key + X key.
• Click on Device Manager.
• Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Now download the drivers the manufacturer website and install it in Windows 8.1 compatibility mode. Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

• Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 8.1 operating system from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Fingerprint reader stopped working

My Lenovo 13s-IML (product number 20RR0003IX, bios version CQCN41WW) was updated to Windows 11 more than 1 year ago.

Since the update some devices (camera and fingerprint reader) started having some issues from time to time, especially after some windows update: fingerprint reader stopped working but removing the device and reinstalling it made it work again.

Couple of weeks ago there was a new Windows update, now I am here

Installed on ‎06/‎10/‎2022
OS build 22621.1778
Serial number R90ZYWB9
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22642.1000.0

and the fingerprint reader stopped working.

I tried

1. updating all drivers, they are the last version listed on Lenovo wwb page about this laptop model
   
2. updating Windows, all done, no optional updates
   
3. removing the device and the driver, and reinstalling the driver (version 3.4.12210.12001 16th march 2020)
   
4. removing any fingerprint from windows hello and tried to record a new one
   
5. updating bios
   
6. resetting bios to defaults
   
7. disabling fingerprint reader in bios, rebooting and then re-enabling it
   
8. enabling Windows Policies to allow biometric access
   
9. stopping and starting Windows Biometrics service
   
10. scanning for corrupted files/drives in Windows
    

Nothing works: when I try to record a new fingerprint, when i put my finger on the sensor the Windows Hello windows tells me "your device is having trouble recognizing you", the fingerprint image flashes partially blu and back to gray many times while I am touching the fingerprint sensor.

The sensor is squicky clean and I have a twin laptop (same model, same windows version etc) with the same issue, so it is not an hardware issue.

Please, help, I log in and out billions of times a day, punching in the password every time is killing me.
