Windows 10: UPS Battery Backup power quality

I know many members here have a lot of money wrapped up in their computers and other electronics. Many of you most likely have your equipment plugged into a UPS for protection from power spikes, brownouts, and power outages.
You always hear that electronics need clean power. Typical utility power is less than 3% THD(Total Harmonic Distortion), which is rated as clean power.

I'm sure a lot of you also use a generator during power outages. I do as well.
I have two UPS units, one is a CyberPower 1500VA AVR, the other is an APC 1500 Back-UPS XS. These are the "Line Interactive type of UPS systems. The typical UPS you will find at your local computer store.

I recently purchased a Fluke Power Analyzer to do some testing and decided to see how clean the power is from my UPS units.
The results were shocking! I think I'm going to be shopping for double conversion pure sinewave UPS units soon.

Battery backup power supply

Looking to get a battery backup power supply. I do have a Normal power supply but I’m thinking battery backup is good for high end rigs. I’m looking at APC or cyperpower both with 900watts battery backup

Battery Backup For Laptop When Power Outage?

A UPS has three main parts :
- A rectifier to convert the AC into DC
- A battery to store energy
- A Inverter to convert the DC into AC

Fist step: You need to find out what you want to power with the UPS.
For example, you want to power a Laptop (50W) and a monitor (80W) so your UPS should be at least around 250W, that is a small UPS.

Second step: For how long you need the UPS. For example, if you want it to last 8 hours, you will need at least 250W x 8h = 2000Wh.
If the battery on the UPS is 12V, you need to attach a 2000/12 = 160Ah (two large car batteries).
Once discharged it can take days to recharge as the built in rectifier is designed for a low capacity battery.

 

Battery Won't Charge Fully

Make sure to install all Windows important updates.

Install latest versions of your laptop device drivers you can download the latest device drivers from the device manufacturer or from your laptop manufacturer website.


Step 1

1. Shutdown your laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

4. Power on the laptop

5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).





7. Shutdown the laptop.

8. Insert the battery.

9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions wont resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.




Step 2

1. Shutdown the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to laptop.

4. When you login to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.





Step 3

Reset the System Management Controller. Use one of these methods to reset the SMC, which controls battery management, battery status light.

1. Shut down the computer and disconnect the power cord.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Press and hold the power button for ten seconds.

4. Reattach the battery and AC power adapter, then start up the laptop.


Hopefully one of the above suggestions will help you resolve the battery not charging problem. If battery still doesn't charge, you may need to replace your battery.
