Windows 10: [urgent] win 10 update tool lost partition

Hey guys,

I fucked up big time. My buddy needed help to set up a new laptop with win 10. I used the MS win 10 download tool to get the files. I had an old version on my HDD, so I thought I could chose the same folder. Big mistake.

Long story short - my gaming/backup partition is no more. Some important memories stored on that drive. Any chance to get some back?

Windows command center shows 2 unused blocks that can get labeled with a partition, 2Tb and 1.67Tb. (its one 4Tb drive)

There is a 32gig fat32 part ready (win install), hope some of my files are recoverable in the unallocated spaces. Don't mind the games, but the pictures of pets/vacations etc hit hard.

Could use any help I can get right now.

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Win 10 update deleted partition

after update to Win10 Edu 1511 build 10586.45 I lost access to my data partition. Roll back to previous version unavailable, as update had been stuck in unsuccessful update loop for a long time. Win 10 on SSD, data on intel RST raid 1 HDD pair. My backup
E partition is still available. Dual-boot with win 7-64 Ult, the data drive not available in that OS either. Both Aomei partition assistant and minitool partition wizard show the D-drive as present. I ran the minitool partition recovery wizard, but the drive
still shows as an empty EFI system partition without a drive access letter in win 7 and 10. It is not listed in windows file explorer in either OS. Anyone know of an easy fix to regain access to the partition?
