Windows 10: USB 2.0 driver issue after Windows 10 2004 update

After installing the Windows 10 2004 update I lost both my keyboard and mouse. Discovered this is due to a USB 2.0 issue. Connecting the kybd / mouse to USB 3.0 ports on an expansion board allows them to operate with no issue. I cannot boot my system this way, have to move the keyboard to a 2.0 port for boot-up then back to a 3.0 port for Windows.


My system is an older Dell tower, IntelR ICH10 Family USB Enhanced Host Controllers. In Device Manger the USB Host Controllers, Root Hubs, and Composite Devices all show to be OK. Only the Universal Serial Bus USB Controller lines indicate an issue. The properties page says to 'Reinstall the drivers for this device. Code 18' I've had Windows search my drive and the web for updated drivers. No updates found and failures each time I try to reinstall the current drivers. BTW, I've uninstalled all the USB ports and Root Hubs, rebooted the system, same conditions afterward.


USB memory sticks seem to work OK in the ports, only the keyboard and mouse are affected. And the keyboard works OK in a 2.0 port prior to Windows loading.

3.0 USB not compatible with USB 2.0 printer

As the USB 3.0 ports are unable to detect the USB 2.0 device, the issue might be with the USB drivers. I suggest you to update the driver by following the steps provided below:

• Press Windows key + X, select Device Manager.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller.
• Right click on the driver, select Update Driver Software and follow the on-screen prompts.

If the issue still persists, follow the steps provided below:

• Press Windows key + X, select Device Manager.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller.
• Right click on the driver, select Uninstall.
• Restart the system and check for status.

USB 2.0 Camera Fails

The issue might be the USB 2.0 camera, the driver, or a misbehavior in the Windows 10 system. To determine the which causes the issue, kindly answer the following questions:

• Have you tried updating the driver? If so, did you install the latest update from the manufacturer's website?
• Since you have mentioned that you followed directions to get the issue sorted, may we know the troubleshooting steps that you have done in an attempt to resolve the issue?
• Were you able to use the USB 2.0 camera before?
• Were there changes made prior to the issue?

Vega USB 2.0 webcam and Windows 2004 update

After windows 10 2004 update Vega USB 2.0 webcam will not cut off. Prior to update it only came on when manually turned on or app such as SKYPE called for it. again. I DO NOT want it on all the time.

I tried updating driver. That did not work.

Restarting my Dell Inspiron desktop did not solve problem.

Now it will have a blue light on but not work with ZOOM.

FYI, do not where a trouble shooter for camera is.
