USB 3.0 hub showing as 2.1

I just added a Wavlink USB Hub, 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, and it seems to be operating as a 2.0 hub.

USB 3.0 hub showing as 2.1 [IMG]

for those that don't know, USB Device Tree Viewer's icon with an "H" is for 1.0/2.0 ports, and "S" is for 3.0 ports. Port 10 is physically the same as port 20 under the "USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)" device. If the Wavlink were functioning as I expect it to, I would think that Tree Veiwer would show 8 ports, 4 labeled "H" and 4 labeled "S".

I tried it in another port with the same results.

    I'm running Windows 10.

Here is the long version of USB Device Tree Viewer's output when I select the hub:

  2. Help with BSOD death diagnosis (ran mdsched and verifier w/ results uploaded)

The file that failed was Asmedia USB 3.0 driver, not the hub one.

If you have a USB hub(multiple 3.0 ports), you should then install USB hub driver.

My W10 desktop doesn't see my Lumia 950 XL from a USB hub

I have not tried myself, but is that still a USB 2.0 hub and not a USB 3.0?

If it is a USB 3.0 hub, is it powered not by the bus but its own power outlet?

USB 3.0 hub showing as 2.1

I have never used that program before but are you sure the port your connecting the hub to is USB 3 look's to me like it's not.

I always just look at the color of the plastic part in the port, Blue is USB 3 and Black is USB 2 for all my computers.

  5. Do you have any other USB 3.0 devices you can test on your system to see if this is an issue with only the hub or if it's all USB 3.0 devices?

Ah, good idea. I plugged in an ADATA UVI128 USB Flash Drive that is supposed to be USB 3.0, and it does the same thing, shows up as USB 2.0:

Code: SupportedUsbProtocols : 0x03 Usb110 : 1 (yes) Usb200 : 1 (yes) Usb300 : 0 (no)[/quote] Unless this flash drive is mislabeled, there must a problem somewhere else. Any thoughts on where to look?

Yes. Both the Flash Drive and the Hub do. I'll attach the full report.

I don't see anything obviously related. Maybe we could pursue this if the Tree Viewer output doesn't lead anywhere?

  11. I almost looks like that the device will run at the speed of the slowest device that is connected to it. It may not have the capability to run multiple speeds per port ? Have you tried removing the slow (USB 2.0) devices (Camera, mouse, keyboard) from that device, then reboot and plug in the KNOWN USB 3.0 device. Then see what the speed rating looks like.

Also take a view of it when NOTHING else is connected to it.

I don't think that's the issue - otherwise the USB flash drive would be running at 3.0. Does that make sense?

  13. USB 3.0 hub showing as 2.1

Well we are trying to isolate the problem you are having. It could be a mislabel product and its really is only a USB 2.0 device ? Looking at the HUB #'s, The HUB states is only running at USB 2.1 speeds on a USB 3.0 connection ? I question why it isn't showing a 3.0 speed ???

    Just trying to help.

I appreciate your help! I'm attaching the two Tree View files, one with nothing connected to the Hub, and one with the USB 3 Flash Drive connected to the Hub. As I reminder, the USB 3 Flash Drive shows as USB 2 on all ports, of the Hub or when plugged in directly to the computer.

However, I just plugged the USB 3 drive into my laptop, and it does show as USB 3. When I plug the Hub into the laptop, it shows as USB 2.

    So, that's all pretty weird.

  15. Nothing jumps out at me from the logs.

You can try booting to a Ubuntu live USB drive and seeing if USB 3.0 is negotiated in Linux (by running lsusb -v). That way you can see if it's a Windows issue.
