  1. USB 3.0 ports only provide power, devices not detected.

USB2.0 works fine, but after a windows update my USB 3.0 ports stopped detecting connected devices.

This is a 4 year old cyberpower machine, so it made the jump from Windows 7 -> 10, but despite downloading the USB 3.0 drivers from the motherboard manufacturer, it's not finding the Fresco USB Host controller to update the drivers.

    What am I missing?

  2. Intermittent loss of USB devices/ports

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I regret the inconvenience caused to you. Let me help you.

If the USB device does not display in Device Manager, then there might be a power requirement issue.

Disconnect the device and perform the following steps until the device is detected:

    1. Restart the computer.

    2. Connect the device and wait 5 seconds. If the device is not recognized, disconnect it and go to the next step.

    3. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

    a. The Device Manager window opens.

    4. Double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the list.

    5. Double-click a USB Root Hub, click the Power tab, and then click Power Properties.

    6. Devices that are attached to the hub are shown, as well as the power that they require. If the total displayed power is over 500 mA, remove the devices and use a powered hub.

    7. Continue looking at the power properties of each USB hub. If the total Power Required exceeds the Total power available for the hub, then remove a device on that hub to lower the Power Required number.

    8. Connect the device and wait 5 seconds. If the device is not recognized, disconnect it and go to the next step.

    9. Remove high-speed USB cables that are over 3 m (9.8 ft) in length and use high-speed cables that are shorter than 3 m.

    a. Only use high-speed cables shorter than 3m in length with high-speed USB devices (multifunction printers, scanners, and cameras).

    10. If the USB device is connected to a USB port on a keyboard, disconnect it, then connect it to a USB port on the computer or to a powered hub.

    11. There might be an issue with the USB port. Try connecting to a different USB port. If the USB device displays in Device Manager after connecting the cable to a different port, then uninstall and reinstall the USB device software driver.

    12. Consult the manufacturer of the device for support if the device still fails to display.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

    Thank you.

The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :

Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:

Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

I hope this is detailed enough...

USB 3.0 ports only provide power, devices not detected.

USB-2 and 3 ports seeing powered disc drives but no splash drives.

Recently my Logitech C920 camera stopped working and was no longer showing up in the Device Manager when using either USB 2 or 3 ports. When plugging it in to other PC's it worked fine, so I began looking at Logitech drivers thinking that must be the culprit. After spending some time with Logitech drivers and programs and nothing working, I decided to plug in a splash drive or two just to check. Sure enough, they aren't detected either, just like the camera. I tried all USB ports 2 and 3. They aren't detected in any of them. Not showing up in the Device Manager or the Disk Management list. However, the splash drive lights do light up.
I also have 2 USB external drives. A WD EasyStore and a Seagate Backup Plus Drive. Both of these are detected with no problems in both the USB 2 and 3 ports. They show up in the Device Manager and Disk Management.
At the same time the USB issues began, my PC "Restart" option also stopped working. When I choose "Restart", the computer signs off, the screen goes black for a second, then the ASUS ROG logo appears and that's where it hangs. I can't even enter the bios at this point. My only option is to do a hard shutdown and restart with the power button, then it starts up normally. I tried all the suggestions online about this problem to no avail and I'm guessing it's also being caused by the USB issue (drivers?).
I've tried uninstalling all of the USB Hubs and Controllers and rebooting to reset them, and changing the power options for the USB Hubs. I've tried everything I could find online regarding USB ports not recognizing drives. I can't find anything from ASUS that has helped. I'm guessing if I could install older drivers, that might work, but every time I've tried, Windows wouldn't let it complete. My roll back driver options are all grayed out. Any suggestions?
