    USB 3.0 problem

    Hey guys

    I currently have a Dell inspiron 7548 with windows 10 x64.

This laptop has 2x usb 3.0 ports and 1x usb 2.0.

Basically what is happening is that I cannot use any 3.0 usb external hdd on a usb 3 port. As soon as I insert any usb 3 device on a usb 3 port it starts connecting and reconnecting intermittently with windows plug and unplug sound also playing.

I tried setting all the power options for high performance...disabling usb selective suspend...disabling all the power saving capabilities on the device manager for each usb port, also tried disabling usb emulation and powershare from dell bios.

I don`t know what else to try.

Maybe someone here could know the answer to this problem. I will leave a video of my problem so it might be easier to identify:

Also a screen from USBdeview that it might help:

    Cheers guys

    :)

  3. USB Memory Stick not recognized by Windows 10

I found the USB memory stick (Corsair Voyager GT 3.0) I was using worked fine in a USB 2.0 port and failed in a USB 3.0 port, so I installed the most up-to-date USB 3.0 driver for my motherboard and that solved my problem. Now my USB memory stick works
fin in my USB 3.0 port.

Hi, can you advise your history:
    - is this a clean install
    - did you upgrade
    - if you upgraded, were your USB3 ports working well previously?

Have you tried installing your USB root hubs, rebooting?

  7. Things to try...

Check if your HD needs two USB cables!
    Turn off FastStart.
Get latest USB drivers for your motherboard from Dell site. Once installed, restart, then search for new drivers using Device Manager.
If no joy, search for drivers using VID/PID string of port. If you don't know how to do this, see Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices - Windows 7 Help Forums

    USB 3.0 problem

Hi dalchina thanks for the reply

I did upgrade from windows 8.1 but then I did a clean install afterwards. (had to do it this way in order to have my windows activated)
The ports were working normally on 8.1.

I tried the external hdd on a different laptop just to make sure it wasnt the hdd at fault. Hdd works great on another laptop.

By installing usb root hubs you mean unninstall them first then reboot and they will "self install" yeah I tried that.

Hdd only needs 1 cable. Tried on my gfs laptop. All good.

Tried turning off fast start. Didnt help. (computer took ages to startup)
Have all the latest drivers. Already looked up on the vid and pid string.

Im using USBdeview to view the strings and hub port etc.

  10. I had similar issues in 8.1, just another thing you might want to look at

In device manager (while the drive is plugged in), see if you have a section called Portable Devices, if the drive shows up under here, disable it
From reading on this, this is for sync device such as phones, portable mp3 players

Disabling the USB drive in here doesn't affect its running, just stops windows thinking its a removable sync device

    Just tried that.

The hdd only shows up on the Device Manager when it is connected to usb 2.0. While on usb 2.0 i can indeed disable portable devices.

When i connect it to usb 3.0 port, Device manager keeps refreshing itself with the sound of the plug, unplug device from windows. (Just like the video i posted). Therefore i cannot disable anything related to the device on usb 3 port.

    Noted here:
Dell Inspiron 7548 Drivers Download for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP
there is apparently a USB driver (last).
Can you revert to the corresponding drivers for Win 8? However the way this reads, there is only one version.

Guess you could try reinstalling the driver from site?
However, I find this unexpected as I wouldn't have thought Dell would supply these.. Hmmm.

    USB 3.0 problem

I think those drivers are wrong. I had to manually install the driver and even doing so after reboot the exclamation marks on the device managers shows up.

Nevertheless i did tried installing them manually and forcing them without any result.

Can you advise if you have ever not had yellow exclamation marks against the USB hubs in the Dev. Man in Win 10?
