USB 3 ports no longer support external hard drives after upgrading from Win 7 to Windows 10

I used the free upgrade tool yesterday.
I can use the drives in USB 2 ports, but nothing is recognized in USB 3. Theres nothing showing anywhere, 'MyPC' 'Device Manager' or even 'Disk Manager'.

My keyboard and mouse can run from the USB 3 ports but not the drives?

I've tried every tutorial i could find for 8 hours yesterday trying to rectify the situation.
Last night i read that if the devices are plugged in during the upgrade then they wont be recognised.
So i rolled back to Windows 7, where their still recognised, unplugged the usb external drives and upgraded again.

Still the same problem. So whats going on?? The drives work in the USB 2 drives, and the keyboard and mouse work in the USB 2 and 3 drives?

Anyone got any ideas on what to do, as the only option i see after today is a permanent rollback to win7 as i wouldn't want to risk a fresh clean install.

    My specs are:
    Asus P9X79 Pro motherboard

    Intel i7 3860 @ 3600ghz

2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 EVGA

    16gb DDR3 ram

    :)

My Seagate external hard drive is not detected when plugged in to USB port of my laptop using windows 10?

    Thanks for your response.

I have tried all the steps provided, however in vain. The external hard drive is not identified at all in any of the the USB ports when connected. The USB ports identify other external Flash drives and devices. However this drive is detected in another laptop
using Windows 7 OS. Please advise further.

    Regards

  3. win 10 does not detect external hard drive on usb port

I recently set up a new computer with Windows 10. I have a hard drive that I removed from my old (Windows XP) PC, and have connected it as an external drive to the new Win 10 PC using a Unitek USB 3.0 to IDE adapter. The adapter has its own power supply
so it does not need to draw power from the PC's USB port.

When I plug the adapter's USB A connector into the Windows 10 PC, Windows 10 fails to detect it. The hard drive's motor does spin up, as I can feel it when it does.

I'd appreciate any advice on how to get Windows 10 to detect the external drive, a Western Digital Serial ATA drive.

USB 3 ports no longer support external hard drives after upgrading from Win 7 to Windows 10

Windows 10 upgrade no longer sees external hard drive

My PC was forcibly upgraded to Windows 10. Preparing for an off line backup I plugged my external hard drive that I always use in to the PC and it is no longer recognized by my computer though windows 10 still chimes when the device is plugged into the
PC. While it does not recognize the USB connected hard drive it is still able to access old USB sticks. I bought a new external hard drive and that also is not recognized by this PC. My laptop that I bought with Windows 10 installed recognizes both the
old external Hard Drive and the New one.
