Windows 10: usb 3 ports working as usb 2. cant figure out what to do

Hi I had a budget motherboard which do not had USB3 ports. But I recently find out it has a USB header 20pin with label "f_usb_3.0" . so I purchased a connector and setup USB port. But my pc is not acknowledging it as a USB3 port. it use it as a USB 2 port with transfer speed of 30MB/s. also in device manager it do not show as a USB3 device. I gone through bios and see a USB option XHCI handoff which was enabled by default. But I am not getting USB3 LISTED IN DEVICE MANAGER. USB 3 Ports not working

Hi folks,
i was trying to copy some files from an external drive using the usb 3 port on my M/B but it doesnt work, i downloaded the drivers from the Manufacturers website but no luck either, am i missing an important step here? i havent checked the Bios yet

USB port not working

I have an HP Pavilion dv6604nr laptop. I have 3 USB ports, 2 located on the left side and one located on the right side near the power supply port. For some reason, one of the USB ports on the left hand side will not recognize anything that is plugged
into it. I have done all the steps and suggestions that is posted on this site, and still can't get it to work. The message I get is "The last USB device that was connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows in the Device Manager
as Unknown USB Device(Port Reset Failed). When I have a USB device plugged into the non-working port, it shows up in the Devices and Printers folder, but the device does not work. I am at my wits end. Can anyone help me or suggest any other things to try?
Oh, I am running Windows 10 pro.

 

USB 2 port not working

I downloaded from hp and reinstalled the Intel chipset drivers, still the USB 2 port doesnt work. The board has the ethernet, USB 2 & 3 ports, and a SDHC port, all work except for the USB 2. I ordered a new board for $8, and will try that, but the solder
connections on the board to the USB 2 port looked fine. This problem initially happened about 2 months after I bought the computer and never went further with it because the 2 USB 3 ports have been able to handle all I need, but now I need another port.
