  1. USB Audio 2.0 Mixer Unit control

Hi,I am developing a USB audio 2.0 UAC2 device. This device has a USB mixer unit as defined by the usb audio 2.0 standard and I was wondering how I can control/set it with the default usbaudio2.sys driver?According to the official docs:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/audio/usb-2-0-audio-driversI should be able to send a SET request to a mixer unit with the default drivers.I extracted some logs from the usbaudio2.sys driver and can see that it recognizes the Mixer unit:USBAudio2] MixerUnit ID=0x50 'MY MIXER'[2]0004.29B0::04/11/2022-15:46:32.392 [USBAudio2] Con

  2. Set new audio device default for volume mixer in Windows 10

    I use two audio devices:

    • Default (audio) device "Realtec Digital Output (Optical)"
    • Default communication device "Lautsprecher (Speaker)"

    My goal:
I want to have the default audio volume on my default communication device, instead of the default device - at all times.

    What I tried so far:
Changing the volume mixer to my communication device explicitly works temporary, but as soon as I close the settings window, the default audio volume is reset again to the default audio device.

Step 1: Clicking on volume shows me the default device:

Step 2: Changing the volume mixer to my communication device manually:

Step 3: Clicking again on volume does not keep the change USB Audio 2.0 Mixer Unit control :(

How can I make it permanent that windows uses my communication device for default volume control?

  3. USB audio CODEC

I have a 5 year old Mackie ProFx8 mixer that uses a USB port for data transfer. When you configure your system, the USB CODEC driver will be used. Anything that hangs off the mixer will be detected like your speakers and mics. Everything goes through the
USB port on the mixer. It acts like an analog to digital USB hub.

You need to disable audio drivers of devices not attached to the mixer to avoid any feedback and potential driver bugs. Many computer motherboards have onboard audio chipsets like VIA or Realtek. You may be using Nvidia
or ATI Radeon graphics cards too. They will install their own HD audio and virtual drivers.

You do not need to use those and should disable them. You want to avoid having anything influencing your audio pipeline.

I started receiving "pops" whenever I left clicked with my mouse on various user interface elements in applications that I was running. It was extremely annoying. You may not have had these before but they start showing up after adding more gear to your
USB mixer and USB ports. After hours of troubleshooting, I disabled all the devices mentioned above. You would think that would work, but it didn't.

To eliminate the problems entirely, uninstall all unused audio drivers.

    Go to Device Manager

Click on Audio inputs and outputs

Right click the audio components you do not need

    Disable first, then uninstall

Click on Sound, video and game controllers

Right click the audio components you do not need

    Disable first, then uninstall

    Reboot your computer.

Right click on the speaker icon in the tray

Look at the Playback list and Recording list

You should see devices attached to the USB Audio CODEC listed

Do the same with Device Manager and check that the system did not reinstall the drivers you eliminated

    1) Right-click on the audio icon in the system tray and select "Recording Devices" to open the recording device settings.

    3) show the “Stereo Mix” option.

    4) Right-click on Stereo Mixer and click on Enable.

To upgrade the Stereo Mixer, go to Device Manager. Under Audio Inputs and Sounds, locate Stereo Mixer.

    * Right click and go to properties and chose to update drivers.
