Windows 10: USB-C headset not working on my laptop, but on a friend's one is working

Hey y'all


I have an HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-DF0XXX. It has two USB-C ports which are working just fine tried connecting my phone and it recognizes it without issues. I had a set of USB-C earphones from Huawei It came with the Mate 10 Pro, and when I connect them to my computer, literally nothing happens, just as if I hadn't plugged anything.


I tried connecting them to a friend's laptop HP Pavilion x360 and they do work just fine, it even gets the Windows pop-up saying that Windows is setting up the device, and when I go to Device Manager, it does show it has drivers available to use the earphones. I tried a bunch of things but nothing worked, these are my attempts:


-Tried on both USB-C ports

-Tried updating BIOS

-Tried searching for updates to the audio drivers

-Tried with a USB-C dongle yes, out of desperation I plugged a USB-C dongle to plug the USB-C earphones hahaha

-Tried connecting something else my phone to the port to see if they were working

-Tried plugging the earphones with Device Manager opened nothing happened

-Tried running the audio troubleshooter

-Tried to update windows

-Tried asking the laptop politely to recognize the earphones

Headset not working

Hi Mathieu,

We need to know if the issue is with the computer or headset. To isolate the concern, provide us the following information:

• Are you using a laptop or a desktop?
• If you're using a laptop, does the built-in speaker works?
• Are you using a USB headset or does your headset has a 3.5mm jack?
• Do your headset works on other devices?
• Have you tried using other headsets on your computer?

In the meantime, follow the troubleshooting steps found on this link. The link provided different troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue.

USB headphones not working

Sounds very much like a headset problem. Do you have access to another headset to try out (borrow one from a friend, colleague, neighbor, relative...)? If the other headset works correctly, then you will probably have to replace the one you're currently using. You didn't by any chance happen to step on the headset, cables, or dongles recently, did you? I just had to replace an older Logitech wired headset because I stepped on the cable and twisted the USB connector enough to cause it to start shorting. It happens!

Master volume for USB headset not working. Win10

I understand that the USB Headset audio controller is not working. I will definitely assist you.



This issue may occur due to audio controller is corrupt. Try the below methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1.

I would suggest you try to connect in different port and check f it helps. If the issue still persist try below method.



Method 2.

I would suggest you to run sound audio troubleshooter, it will automatically detect the problem and fix it. Follow the below steps.

• Press Windows key + R and click on Control Panel.
• Click on View by: category and click on Small icon.
• Now click on troubleshooting and click on Hardware and Sound.
• Click on Playing Audio and Click on Next button.
  

Method 3.

I would suggest you to un-install the audio controller from the Device Manager and check if helps. Follow the steps:

• Press Windows key + R and type devmgmt.msc and hit the Enter.
• Go into Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus controller.
• And right click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node related to USB headset and remove them at a time.
• Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
