  1. USB disks/drives inaccesible due to Driver issue

Few days ago when I was trying to access one of my USB flash disks, it wasn't visible in the Explorer but, heard the sound of detection of the device by windows. Checked Device manager and saw the "Yellow sign with exclamation" on the device under "Disk drives". Under properties, it says that Windows can not load the driver.

Tried the same USB disks on other PC, works fine!

Tried the registry edit method of removing "Upper" or "LowerFilters", Uninstalling USB controllers & device, other popular methods mentioned on internet, no luck..

Booted in to Safe mode with the USB disk plugged in, Windows detects it & is accessible for the first time.

If I eject & re-insert it, dosen't work as usual.

I've tried other USB disks & Portables hard disks, the same problem. But, other USB devices like Mouse, Gamepad works fine. Only issue with USB flash disks/Pen drives!!

I don't want to do a clean install. Recently got the Anniversary Update v1607, don't know if there's any connection to this.

    Any solution to this??

    :)

  2. How to delete faster

If you are sure you want to delete everything from the disk drive you could do a quick format of the drive.

Go into File Explorer and right-click the relevant drive and select Format. In the box ensure that Quick Format is ticked and click Start. This will empty your drive in a matter of minutes, any data you might have wanted will be inaccesible.

    Hard disk

Microsoft do not provide the drivers, they are contained in Windows and installed automatically . . .

This is not your issue, if Disk management cannot see the drive, Windows will not load a driver. The issue is Windows is not seeing the drive - you might check in your BIOS to see if anything is switched off there in USB devices!

USB disks/drives inaccesible due to Driver issue

Hi, do you notice a difference between USB2 & USB3 if you have both available?
I have an old old small flash drive, and it's recognised on USB3, but not on USB2- which does seem rather the wrong way round.
No !'s, but there is the insertion sound in every case.
An autoplay prompt occurs on insertion into USB3 ports.

Do any of your flash drives work on that PC, or are they all the same make?

If you get yellow !s for all, uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers. In Device Manager ruthlessly remove all USB related items, reboot.

  11. I've uninstalled the USB disk itself & all the USB controller from Device manager. Restarted Windows & inserted USB disk, Yellows sign & the issue persists.
FYI, I only get the Yellow sign on USB disk/drives connected, under "Disk drives" in Device manager. Rest of the USB related stuffs remain normal/functional..
Where can I get the USB Drivers that you were talking about ??

Did your laptop come with Win 10 installed? It looks as if it did.

Check the version of your USB drivers with those from your manufacturer's site, if available there.
    Check for a BIOS update.
