USB Drives no longer functional on ACER laptop - but USB devices work?

Hi, Hoping someone has run across this particular issue and has a fix because it's not something any of the standard recommended steps I've taken have remedied. I've tried resetting fast start up, I've gone into USB properties and disabled the sleep feature. I've been through the removing of USB root hubs and re-starting the laptop routine. I've tried updating drivers, etc. Nothing has remedied it. I tried rolling back some recent windows updates to the date just before the drives stopped being recognized. They worked fine until recently AFTER some updates.I COULD re-install the original OS th

  2. usb device no longer accessible in Windows

I made a boot USB of OS X Snow Leopard from the real DVD. I had to go through several steps because I don't have a real mac. I installed OS X in a virtual machine and used SuperDuper to perform the format and copy of the OS. It installed perfectly on a customer Mac Book. Now, I no longer have any use for the OS X boot usb, so it was time to format the device. I formatted the usb in Linux and used NTFS filing system. When I stuck the usb flash drive into my PC, only 230mb is available. I wanted to see what was going on, so I opened up Disk Management and it shows 250mb (FAT32) and another partition that's 7.27GB, but it cannot be formatted. What can I do to fix this problem? I'm at my wits end! If necessary, I could post some pictures of whats going on.

    USB not working

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

This issue could occur if the flash drive is damage or Windows USB root hub is not working as expected, you can try the troubleshooting steps below to further narrow down to the root cause of the issue.

    1. May I know, if the USB is working on another computer?
    2. Which version of Windows is installed on the computer?
    3. Are you aware of any recent changes made on the computer?

I suggest you to check the article
USB devices may stop functioning correctly when multiple devices connected to the same USB hub go
    into selective suspend
, follow the steps on this article and check if this helps you.

If you don’t have any data concern, you can
format the USB from disk manager
(Applicable for Windows 10), check the topic
To format an existing partition (volume) from the article, however you will have to perform this steps on your USB drive. So, make sure the USB is connected when you perform the format, please be careful to select the USB drive, if the steps
is performed on wrong drive the data on the drive will be wiped.

If you still face the issue, please reply to this post with more information.

USB Drives no longer functional on ACER laptop - but USB devices work?

No USB ports working on toshiba laptop

    Hi guys,

Got an old Toshiba laptop, satellite l500d pslk0a-00r009
Its old and doesn't officially support win10. However I have it installed and everything works fine except USB. All the ports seem completely dead, plugging in a USB mouse I get no light on the mouse. USB flash drives don't work either. This was previously working under win7.

The issue seems to be I don't have "Generic USB hub" in device manager. Have tried to manually install it using add legacy hardware but it wont take. I have several USB root hub and others listed, but not the generic hub.

Here's what I have tried so far:

Uninstall all USB device in device managers and reboot
    Confirmed BIOS is latest version
tried both legacy and compatibly USB mode in BIOS
Download and install generic win10 USB drivers
    Disable USB power saving mode
Installed toshiba's service center, no updates available
    Ran MS troubleshooter/fixit

I think the next step is to give up, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

    thanks
