Windows 10: USB Drives / Removable / Neither Device Manager

I think this first started being an annoyance to be back around the launch of Windows 7. I've got an entire array of drives in use on my PC at any given moment, disbonded on my task or needs. With the advent of much larger USB thumbdrives, I've had less and less need for swapping/moving USB HDD's all the time.

SO this is what I want...I would like to be able to tell DeviceManager that these USB drives are just plain old drives and not Portable Devices (Clip1).


It makes me insane in the file explorer where under This PC:> that when I expand, displays a whole collection of my drives nested under This PC but them shows them again independently/redundantly (Clip2)

The Creators update for windows 10 left us with a black screen and cursor

No drive letter appears,

no icon in the tray to indicate attached USB device,

no appearance in Device management

neither under disk drives nor in unknown devices

instead the two devices literally complain:

The YiFang repeatedly emits the device connected and then disconnected tones

and the WD My Passport emits a single, complaintive beep repeatedly until removed.

What ever is happening between them exactly, they are both decidedly upset about it.

 

External Disk Devices once formated in Windows 10 are no longer shown on the computer.

I have formatted 2 different external disk drives in Windows 10. For one or two times I was able to access these external drives to use for backup. Then one day neither drive was available for access on my computer. I tried to reconnect each drive to
one of the 4 additional USB ports on my computer. Still the same problem. My external disk drives are shown in Device Manager and in Connected Devices, but not shown in Devices and drives in This PC nor in Disk Management. I went to each respective vendor
for support- reloaded their software and still the drives were not shown.
