Windows 10: USB ethernet connection issues

Hi folks, hoping someone on this forum can assist with diagnosing this issue. The setup is as follows -1 - for a long stretch of time I used a wired ethernet connection via a generic USB ethernet adapter/hub connected to a StarTech USB hub connected to my LG monitor which was connected to my Lenovo ThinkPad laptop via Thunderbolt, never any issues, solid connection and speeds2 - I'm adding a second monitor and decided to purchase a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C dock to replace the ethernet and StarTech hubs3- Wired ethernet connection to the Lenovo dock frequently but seemingly at random, drops out, s

Ethernet connection issues

I realize that you are facing the issue with the Ethernet connection. Let me assist you.


This issue might happen if the power saver option is set.

I suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Press Windows Key + X key and click on
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand Network Adapters.
  
• 
  Right-click on the Network Adapter listed and click on
  Properties.
  
• 
  Click on Power Management tab.
  
• 
  Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box and click on
  Ok.
  
• 
  Restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

My reliable ethernet connection no longer works

Hi Marcia,

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

Cell and Ethernet connection

1. Since when are you facing this issue?
   
2. Have you recently made any changes on the device prior to this issue?
   
3. What is the make and model number of the computer?
   
   
   
   
   
   You may try the below suggested steps to fix the issue.
   
   
   

1. Click on Start, Type in Control Panel and look for Network & Sharing Center.
   
2. Click on ‘Change adapter settings’ on the left pane.
   
3. You will be able to see the list of networks available.
   
4. Click on Advanced menu and select ‘Advanced Settings’.
   
5. You will be able to see the different types of connections under advanced settings Window.
   
6. Select Ethernet and use the arrows at the right side in the current Window in order to reorder the connections.
   
7. Click on OK and check the status of the issue.
