Windows 10: USB external drive not connecting

    USB external drive not connecting


    My PC running Windows 10.0.19043 has stopped recognising aexternal hard disc connected via USB. I've been using this hard disc for about three years and recently it has disappeared from Windows Explorer. I've tested the USB ports using a memory stick and they are working. I've tested the external drive by connecting it to another PC with the exact same version of Windows and it works perfectly, any ideas why it has stopped connecting to my PC?

    HELP!!! External Drive issues!!

    you're in luck, the guy with way too much external storage is here to the rescue!


    step 1: try with a different USB cable

    step 2: take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it internally to your PC

    quite likely the cable or enclosure has died. if you're re-initialising the disk you might actually be erasing it... so dont do that.
