Windows 10: USB external HDD no longer working

Greetings:


I have an old external HDD enclosure (Mad Dog) that shows up as "Unspecified" under Devices and Printers. This drive was working just fine several months ago. I basically just use it as a backup for my music library, so I do access it very often. I lost a good part of my library and when I went to restore it from my backup, that's when I found this problem. I'm pretty sure a Windows update is the reason why.


Apparently, the drivers from Cypress for AT2LP do not support Windows 10. But the fact they WERE working makes me believe I can fix it. In other words, the Cypress website is useless.


I've been through the troubleshooter and uninstalling the device and clearing my USB devices and removing the upper and lower REGEDIT settings, etc. Still no luck getting the darn thing to work.


Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for your input and advice but I'm afraid your suggestions didn't work.

I tried installing the USB 3.0 drivers downloaded from Gigabyte via Windows Compatibility as you suggested but no luck. I'm not sure what to do next to be honest - the HDD used to work under Win 10. I'm at a loss as to know why it doesn't now.

Boot from external USB HDD

Hello!

Any laptop should be able to Be booted from an external HDD.

You can check this back accessing your BIOS and then checking if the BIOS gives you an option to boot from USB.

If that option is listed, then you're good to go!

'Recently upgraded to Win 10 and took the opportunity to upgrade some hardware as well. My USB 3.0 external HDD worked well on the 'first' Win 10 roll-out. Since I installed the November update this weekend however, I no longer have access to that drive.
I've gone into diskmgmt.msc and rescanned for new drives but no show. I've uninstalled the Win 10 USB 3.0 drivers then reinstalled the Renesas drivers but, again, no luck. Win 10 likes to auto re-install even though I elected not to have the auto reinstallation.
I've plugged out and re-plugged in but, again, Win 10 doesn't recognise. I've put the USB 3.0 plug into a USB 2.0 socket - nothing. What I do get is Win 10 telling me that the VLI Product String is being reinstalled which suggests that Win 10 is trying to
recognise a USB 3.0 adapter. My enclosure is the Icy Box IB-351StU3-B.

I'm out of ideas. If anyone can throw some light on this I'd be grateful. Oh, and apologies if this has been asked (and answered?) already.
