I have a question. If I open a text file .txt on a USB drive, does a copy of that file get stored on my local computer Drive C? If so, what is the storage path?

    :)

  2. Corsair Announces USB On-The-Go Flash Drive

Corsair, a world leader in high-performance components to the PC hardware market, today announced the Flash Voyager GO USB 3.0 flash drive in 64 GB, 32 GB, and 16 GB capacities. The exceptionally lightweight, thumb-sized drive has both a USB and a Micro-USB connector, providing convenient data transfer and storage for PCs, notebooks, and Micro-USB OTG-compatible Android phones and tablets.

The Flash Voyager GO's Micro-USB connector enables transfer of videos, music, and photos from and between OTG-compatible Android devices while the USB 3.0 connector enables easy and fast storage of those files to and between desktop and laptop computers. The drive also provides convenient storage expansion for OTG-compatible phones and tablets to free up precious device memory.

  3. USB Flash drive made bootable

    Hi Nelson,

Check if there is any slide switch on the side that provides write protection. It show's a closed and open lock on each side. We suggest to follow these steps below:

    • Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port.
    • Click Start, type devmgmt.msc in the Search textbox and press Enter.
    • Find Disk Drives and expand it.
    • Find the USB flash drive you want to format, and double-click it. It opens the
      Properties dialog box.
    • Click Policies tab.
    • By default, the Optimize for quick removal option selected, switch it to Optimize for performance and then press
      OK.
    • Now open Computer. Right click on the USB Flash Drive and select Format. The Format dialog box now appears.
    • Select NTFS in the File System field.
    • Press Start and wait while the process will be completed.

You can also connect the USB drive on a different computer and try formatting.

Let us know how it goes.

USB drive showing as Local Disk on Windows 10

    Harun,

Thank you for the additional information. I have been thinking about this further and doing a little searching for any similar problems.

The reasons that I do not think that the issue is with the USB Flash Drives but rather with the PC are:

    • The USB Flash Drive was successfully recognised on the PC as a USB Drive by an application on 16th May
    • On 3rd June, I noticed that the application did not recognise that a USB Drive was inserted and that the USB Drive was being shown as Local Disk.
    • I have since sampled ~5 USB Flash Drives (of varying ages) and 2 SD Cards - all are shown on the PC as Local Disk.
    • On my Laptop, all these USB Flash Drives are shown as USB Drives and the SD Cards are shown as Removable Devices.
The only changes to the PC between 16th May and 3rd June are the updating of several drivers through Auslogics Driver Updater (including update of driver for USB Mass Storage Device; reverting to previous version of this drive made no difference) and disconnecting
the PC to move to another room.

I also noticed that under events for the USB Drives, there were "Device ... was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match" events.

Searching, I found an entry on the Microsoft Forum:

Devices "not migrated" after Nov. update: Devices "not migrated" after Nov. update.

A Microsoft agent suggested that this could be due to the chipset drivers having problems and to try uninstalling and re-installing the chipset drivers. However, the originator of the question did not try this suggestion.
