    USB Flash Drive UEFI problem

    Hello Tenforums.com

No matter what I do, my Lenovo Flex 2-14 doesn't seem to recognise my USB as an UEFI Windows bootable flash device, despite following this guide https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html (Option 2), step by step.

I am using a Verbatim 16GB USD v3.0 with Windows 10.10586 x64 on it, and I tried from all three USB-slots on the laptop.

    BIOS configuration is as following:

    Configuration:
    Wireless LAN: Enabled
    SATA Controller working mode: AHCI
    Hotkey Switch: Hotkey Mode
    Power Beep: Disabled
    AMD Virtual Technology: Enabled
    BIOS Bach Flash: Disabled

    Security:
    Adiminstrator password: Cleared
    User Passord: Cleared
    HDD Password: Cleared
    Secure Boot: Disabled

    Boot:
    Boot Mode: UEFI
    USV Boot: Enabled
    PXE Boot to LAN: Enabled
    Boot Priority Order: 1. USB HDD (..) 2. USB FDD (..) 3. ATA HDD: WDC WD200LPCX (..)

    Exit:
OS Optimized Defaults: [Win 8 64bit]

The Boot Menu offers these options:

    1. USB HDD: Verbatim STORE N GO
    2. ATA HDD: WDC DW500LPCX
    3. PCI LAN: EFI Network (IPv4)
    4. Windows Boot Manager
    5. PCI LAN: EFI Network (IPv6)

My pre-installed Windows 8.1 crashed and is not accessible in any way. I spent days now trying all kind of options back and forth, but I believe the above setup should be the right one.

Shouldn't option 1 of Boot Menu appear as something like "1. UEFI HDD: Verbatim STORE N GO"?

Anyone got an idea what is the problem here?

    :)

    Windows 10 re-installation.

I guess you are trying to install Windows 10 on GPT system drive using old MBR method.

When you boot to the USB bootable flash drive with Windows 10 install files, you will probably see two USB flash drives, one with a badge UEFI USB flash drive. Just select UEFI USB flash drive and continue with that. If you choose USB flash drive, it will
not work as this type of bootable flash drive installs on MBR partitioned drive. But for UEFI USB to work, USB flash drive must have been formatted in FAT32 file system before it was created as a bootable Windows 10 install disk.

Anyway, mine is just a guess as you have tried several installs on your new computer. I cannot guess what partition scheme is left of it.

You should also try to contact Toshiba about your issue.

    Hope this helps.

Cannot install windows 10 ISO on hard drive partition GPT or MBR!

    Hi,

What type of problem are you having ?

If your machine came with Win 10 it is a UEFI machine and requires a GPT drive to install Win 10 on...

Your computer may not install to a UEFI Bios from a DVD...

You may need to hit Boot Options at the manufacturer's screen by hitting F2, F11, F12, ESC, Del, or whatever your machine uses...

You will want to look for your DVD or Flash Drive... They will probably be listed twice...

Once as normal, and again as a "UEFI DVD Drive" or whatever your drive is named, or "UEFI USB..." whatever your Flash Drive is named...

A Flash Drive needs to be made by the Create Media tool, preferably on the machine it is going to install to... If done on another machine, be sure to indicate it is for another machine... You may have problems if the other machine does not also have UEFI
    Bios...

The deal with the flash drive is that it needs to be created differently for Legacy MBR and UEFI... UEFI requires the flash drive is formatted FAT32, and Legacy MBR requires that the flash drive is formatted as NTFS...

    USB Flash Drive UEFI problem

Hi, Panasonic. First thought is - can you confirm you selected FAT32 for the USB format in Rufus?

    Hi Word Man,

    Yes I can confirm I selected FAT32.

This is what Rufus looked like prior to pressing 'Start':

    USB Flash Drive UEFI problem

Thanks for bringing to my attention that thread over at Lenovo forum. It might seem to be some issues regarding Lenovo Flex and UEFI. I will have a deeper look within a few days and post here how the situation developes.

  9. My wife's Acer never lists the thumb drive with the UEFI connotation, but does install in UEFI mode. I use diskpart, option 2 here, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...e-windows.html Done that way I can install in UEFI or legacy with that same thumb drive. I have 2 laptops with UEFI and 2 desktop PC's that are legacy BIOS.

Could you please elaborate how you came to the conclusion that your hardware caused this malfunction?
And please, what hardware and in which sense? A hint to your solution would be great *Smile

My current setup is exactly the same and I cannot get Win8 nor Win10 to boot from a USB stick. I Used two sticks, but both fail to boot these. Out of curiosity I tried a stick with Win7 on it and it (kind of) worked. It boots to the installation screen, but then failes due to lacking driver support from Win7 (an error message appears) .
