USB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk...

USB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk Management, at least I don’t see any partitions with just 1.44MB. I can list the contents of the floppy, and copy files, but I’m not able to access it in any programs. When I go to Disk Management in Windows 10 to assign a different drive letter, I don’t see any partitions that show as A:\ or small enough to be a floppy drive. Any ideas how to use this drive? Thanks in advance for any help.

    :)

  2. USB Floppy disk drives not working in Windows 10

    Hi,

as several other "oldies" I noticed the problem to show a floppy disk in the file explorer. After searching for a long time the best and easiest workaround was "cafejose" in the forum at bleepingcomputer.com. He or she wrote the following:

"I just found a way to work around this. When I right clicked on the tray icon to prepare to remove the floppy drive ( which seems strange to try, since no such item was shown in File Explorer), there was an item listing, "devices and printers". I clicked
on this item, and a window appeared showing devices and drives, and there it was - the floppy disc drive A:\ was shown. The Devices and Printers window showed some menus at the top of the window, one menu item saying "Browse", and so I clicked on the Down-Arrow.
A window that LOOKED LIKE File Explorer then opened, and there I could see the contents of the floppy disc in the floppy drive.

Now, with all that, will reopening File Explorer show the floppy disc A:\ drive?

    NO!"

Strange behavior by Windows10 I think, but this way is a bit easier than install (or even start-up) a virtual machine with e.g. WinXP to reach files on floppy disks! Thanks "cafejose"!

    Floppy disk drive driver

    Greetings,

I appreciate your swift response, if the above steps did not work no worries since this is an open forum , we can ask assistance from other community volunteers with their feedback and suggestion with this issue.

For the meantime you can try to check on this thread by @Gary_816

After 6 hours this worked for me. I have the Teac drive also and it appeared to install correctly, but did not show up in Windows Explorer. During a boot up the drive clicks and spins like 3.5" drives did on older systems if there is diskette in the drive.
I opened "Devices and Printers" in the Control Panel and the drive was there. With the diskette still inserted, right click on the Teac icon and select "Browse files > Floppy Disk Drive (AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)". File Explorer should open up and you will see the files on the
floppy listed. You will now see "Floppy Disk Drive (AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)" listed under "This PC". Right click on "Floppy Disk Drive (AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)" and select "Pin to Quick access". "Floppy Disk Drive (AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)" should appear under "Quick access". Although "Floppy Disk Drive (AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)" will disappear
from "This PC" after you close and reopen File Explorer, it will remain under "Quick access" and you can access it from there. It appears that W10 now thinks there is an internal drive "(AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)" because if you right click it "Eject" does not appear as an option.
Why it disappears from "This PC" is a mystery.

Note: On my machine (ASUS) if I take out the diskette or disconnect the drive, "Floppy Disk Drive (AUSB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk... :)" stays in the "Quick access" menu. So no need to keep a diskette in the drive all the time or even have it connected all the time. Worked fine after I reconnected
    it.

Note 1: Under "Devices and Printers" the Drive was identified as "TEAC FD-05PUB". If you get something different (assuming you have a TEAC) try running "Troubleshoot" and see if that corrects it.

I hope the information above helps.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    With Warm Regards,

  4. USB Floppy drive shows in File Explorer as A:\, but I don’t see it in Windows 10 Disk...

Support for non-USB Floppy Drives in Windows 10

I have a 3.5" floppy drive with the traditional interface (floppy controller on the motherboard connected via a 34-conductor floppy cable). Windows 10 provides partial support for this: both the floppy drive and the floppy controller show up and are listed
as healthy in Device Manager, and I have access to the floppy drive in Command Prompt. However, I can't get the floppy drive to show up in File Explorer or Disk Management. How do I complete the support for my floppy drive?

I've found discussion in this forum and elsewhere on USB flopppy drives not being supported well in Windows 10, but this is not my question; I have the traditional interface.
