Windows 10: USB generic flash drive issue

Here is one for the books. It has me puzzled as a novice. It starts with 5samegeneric USB Flash Drives from online purchase.

The computermy main user-HP PAVILION P-7 1297=Win10pro20H2. The 5 USB drives all act the same>on all usb ports<

ISSUES>1. Will not recognize all the time. Have to plug, unplug, plug. 2. When recognized, all 5=exfat. 3. All 5 will reformatFat32. 4. Main ISSUE>once data written, will not fully display//will display written data, and not open file. Unstable.

NOWfor the good. On the same 1297, Verbatim and Scandisc work just fine, on all the same ports. On my 4 OTHER HP pc's, the 5 generics work just fine. My external WD/HD, and my floppy 3 1/2 works just fineboth USBand on all the 1297 USB ports.

1297 device manger shows no issues with usb ports.

Disk management shows no problems. I can scan usb, and reports no problem. Device Manager shows no issues.



I just can't figure out why these certain 5 usb drives work just fine on other pc's, and not on the 1297. Then again, all other usb devices I plug into the 1297 work without issues?????

This is a method to make a ntfs flash drive.

The trial and error step will be booting using Legacy BIOS...

Hi Nelson,

Check if there is any slide switch on the side that provides write protection. It show's a closed and open lock on each side. We suggest to follow these steps below:

• Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port.
• Click Start, type devmgmt.msc in the Search textbox and press Enter.
• Find Disk Drives and expand it.
• Find the USB flash drive you want to format, and double-click it. It opens the
  Properties dialog box.
• Click Policies tab.
• By default, the Optimize for quick removal option selected, switch it to Optimize for performance and then press
  OK.
• Now open Computer. Right click on the USB Flash Drive and select Format. The Format dialog box now appears.
• Select NTFS in the File System field.
• Press Start and wait while the process will be completed.

You can also connect the USB drive on a different computer and try formatting.

Try connecting USB flash drive to a different USB port and check.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select

• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the
  view all option on the left panel.
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
