  1. USB hub not working with active extension cable

    I have a Sabrent 10-Port 60W USB 3.0 Hub that is in my basement and I ran a MutecPower 16 Feet Active USB Extension Cable 3.0 Male to Female with A Extension chipset Signal Booster to the room above where the hub sits. The output on the hub is a usb type b and on the other end of the cable is a type A. So I plugged the female end of my active usb cable to the male end of the plug of my usb hub and plugged it into my computer.

    I would get “ Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)”. I plugged the hub directly into the computer and it works again.

    The active extension cable I got came with a power supply so the cable is powered

    :)

    USB Type-C Hub does not work with extension cable

    "USB 3.1" can mean USB 3.1 Gen. 1 (5 Gbit/s), or USB 3.1 Gen. 2 (10 Gbit/s). The cable you posted about in #3 is described as 10 Gbit/s compatible and its length es 1 m, which is consistent with a Gen. 2 cable. (In the current terminology, it seems that "3.1" is not used anymore, now is 3.2 Gen. 1/2).

    What I suggested was to try a "Gen.1" cable, since the hub is Gen.1. Among others, I found this in Amazon, which is 2.0 m long, therefore Gen. 1:

    USB C Extension Cable,Stouchi USB Type C Male to Female Fast Charging & Audio Data Transfer Cable Compatible for Nintendo Switch, Thunderbolt 3 MacBook Pro, Google Pixel 2 2 XL 3(6 FT)

    The Satechi hub is also listed in Amazon, you could post a question about extension cables.

  3. USB Type-C Hub does not work with extension cable

    I purchased the Satechi USB Type-C hub for my PC. My motherboard has a Type-C connector on the rear I/O. The hub works fine if I connect it directly to the port but the cable is only 12" so I purchased a USB 3.1 Type -C male to female extension cable. But Windows gives me a USB Device Not Recognized when I connect it through the extension cable. So I purchased another cable from a different manufacturer and its the same thing. Is there a specific cable that needs to be used for a hub?

    There error in device manager goes like this:

    Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
    A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

    USB extension cable messing me up

    Assuming the USB-cable is not faulty (since it works with another device this is most likely the case, but there's no guarantee), then the combined length of the cables and/or the connection between the two cables (or a combination of both) causes the issue. The USB-Signal from the UR12 device gets - simply speaking - too "weak" and/or "polluted with interference" which makes it unusable for Windows.

    In this case you will have to use "active" device, for example an small USB-Hub (which has its own power supply). This, again simply speaking, sort of "stabilizes/enhances" the signal:

    [PC]<==usbcable1==>[USB-Hub]<==usbcable2==>[UR12]

    Note: there are also passive USB hubs/extensions without an additional power supply which are supposed amplify/clean the USB signal when used for extensions. But in my personal experience they don't work as reliable as the active ones.
