  1. USB Keyboard & Mouse fail after reconnecting ~3-5 times via USB Switch

I have a ugreen USB switch that I use to have a single mouse/keyboard between a laptop of mine and my windows 10 PC. No matter how many times I switch between the PC and Laptop (which is running MacOS) the laptop always works with the mouse/keyboard. The Desktop, running Windows 10 (with all patches/updates) will fail to recognize the devices after about 4-5 switches. There is nothing I can do except restart the computer to get the keyboard/mouse to work. I can VNC into the machine, and have checked device manager and it's showing no issues, and the mouse/keyboard are getting power (they have LEDs in them that light up).

All my drivers are up to date.

This is not an issue with the keyboard/mouse as they work fine when I use the switch to the laptop.

It's not a cable issue, because I've switched the cables from the PC and Laptop, all with the same results.

I've attempted using ALL of the USB ports I have (and I have quite a few), and the issue continues, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware or port specific issue.

    A restart fixes things.

A restart is a huge pain, and I'd like to avoid it at all costs.

I've found quite a few issues in the past around USB keyboard/mice and it was an update that I can no longer roll back, but the issue seems to be with the devices being reconnected multiple times. It's likely after about 10 or so switches that it happens, but I switch back fairly often, so that means I have to restart my machine every day or two, which is frustrating.

Please let me know what I can possibly do to solve this problem. Ultimately I want to be able to use my mouse and keyboard on two computers. I have a uGreen USB2 hub and USB3 hub, BOTH of them have the same issues. I've attempted to plug the switch into USB2 and USB3 ports in the back, same results. This is clearly a windows 10 bug/issue.

    :)

  2. USB Keyboard & Mouse fail after reconnecting ~3-5 times via USB Switch

I don't believe it's a driver problem, because my keyboard and mouse work perfectly fine. The issue is with them disconnecting and reconnecting multiple times. This is highly replicatable. The Keyboard/mouse work fine, i can switch back/forth between
desktop and laptop about 5 times, then the keyboard and mouse (the only things running out of the switch) fail. Any USB item that is not running through the switch continues to work fine, but if I unplug and re-plug in any of THOSE devices, they do not work.

So, once the keyboard/mouse (items in the switch) fail to work, no other new USB devices will work or register. Anything that was working and remains plugged in works fine.

As noted, this problem also exists on a different USB switch (a USB2.0 switch, the current switch is 3.0). Both with exactly the same conditions. Works for the first few switches, then fails on the ~5th switch from the laptop to the desktop.

  3. USB Keyboard & Mouse fail after reconnecting ~3-5 times via USB Switch

More information - it happens after 5 connects/disconnects. So after initialized the devices 5 times (keyboard + mouse).

When i attempt to reconnect the keyboard or mouse directly to the computer they do not work once things stop working.

I should note that I have tons of USB devices attached to my computer. I have a powered hub with 2 HD webcams, a USB blue yeti, a streamdeck, and a few miscellaneous arduino boards. Everything continues to work, but new devices cannot be added.

I read in a previous thread (to which I cannot find anymore) that it could be that, whenever the switch is reconnecting, it's "adding" the devices again, and at some point it's hitting a limit, and not adding new devices.

Either way, the only solution seems to be restarting the computer...
