  1. USB keyboard prevents sleep

I've been struggling for 8 months see my other post "Monitor doesn't turn off after specified time", trying to get my new Windows 11 laptop to sleep automatically. Three days ago, I had a breakthrough. I just confirmed that it's my external USB keyboard that is triggering my laptop to not go to sleep automatically. When I unplug the keyboard, the automatic sleep happens on schedule. When I plug it back in, the computer remains sleepless. Although I've tried many potential fixes, I haven't found a solution. It's an old HP keyboard. When I had it plugged into my Windows 10 laptop, it never in

  2. Microsoft Wireless USB Keyboard/Mouse Dongle Still Prevents Computer from Sleeping

    Hello Lo Yuk Fai (New)

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you've encountered a rather frustrating issue with your Microsoft Wireless USB Keyboard/Mouse Dongle preventing your computer from entering sleep mode. This type of problem can indeed be quite perplexing, especially when it doesn't manifest across all devices, as in your case with the Surface.

Given that setting the sleep timer to 1 minute seems to provide a temporary workaround, this suggests that the issue might be related to how the dongle communicates with the system's power management settings. It's possible that the dongle is sending intermittent signals that the system interprets as activity, thus preventing it from sleeping as expected.

In terms of a solution, you're right in hoping for an updated driver that could address this issue. In the meantime, there are a few steps you can try to potentially mitigate the problem:

    1. Update Drivers and Firmware: Ensure that all your drivers and firmware are up to date, not just for the dongle but also for your ThinkPad and any other relevant hardware.
    2. Power Management Settings: Check the power management settings for the USB ports in Device Manager. Sometimes, allowing the computer to turn off the device to save power can help.
    3. Different USB Port: Try using a different USB port for the dongle. Sometimes, specific ports can cause compatibility issues.

  3. External USb Keyboard stop to work after sleep or replug in the USB port

I made an exaustive test afert following all the first 3 Step suggested.

I made the following test, this time, with 3 different type of USB External Keyboard (KD).

    1. Remove the keyboard from USB and reinsert after a while and doesn't work. After thiss operation I nedd to restart PC to see the KB in any USB port.

    2. Sleep the PC.

    a. REmove the KB from USB and after sleep after restart the Kb doesn't work

    b. Sleep pc and after remove the KB, after restart the Kb doesn't work

I tried also before revive the PC try to:

    c. Plug the KB before revive the PC

    d. Plug the KB after revive the PC

  4. USB keyboard prevents sleep

Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 preventing sleep

    Hello,

On a fresh install of Windows 10 (because of new SSD) my keyboard is preventing windows from sleeping. I know it is the keyboard because when it is switched out for another (wired USB) keyboard the problem goes away. I have the updated driver and software. This was not an issue on the old install.
