  1. USB Monitor/Display link issue

I have an ASUS MB168B USB 3 monitor, works fine in Windows 8.1 with the ASUS EZlink software. After upgrading to Windows 10 10122 x64 I got Visual C++ debug errors and had to un install it. When I plugged my monitor in for the first time Displaylink was downloaded and installed automatically. Monitor won't work though. Windows 10 sets its resolution to 1024 x 768 and won't let me change it. If I try to set it to 1366 x768 I get a Settings could not be saved try a different resolution message. It doesn't matter what resolution I chose, I get the same message. This monitor will not display if not set to 1366 x768, all I get is a black screen. I uninstalled display link and installed the V7.8 Beta 1 for Windows 10 from their site but same deal. If nobody has any ideas I'll be going back to Windows 8.1.

    :)

  2. why do we lose function in our external monitors when we do windows 10 updates

    We have 2 issues.

Issue 1--We use a TV as a secondary monitor in our conference room. We were using display link as a wireless transmitter. After installing windows 10, the display link no longer works on the conference room computer. We purchased a Miracast enabled wireless
USB to HDTV adapter. This doesn't work either. We did get both of the adapters to work in a different location with a different computer. The problem started after we installed windows 10

Issue 2--I am using a laptop computer and 2 external monitors. The second monitor is run by usb through an external video card. After the last windows update, the monitor drags, the mouse runs uneven and is difficult to control. I tried reinstalling the
drivers, updated the drivers, rebooted etc. Nothing works.

  3. Display Link USB to HDMI Adapter is not working in Windows 10 Anniversary Edition

I am using HP-21 Pavilion all in one desktop. My machine is not having VGA or HDMI port. On this machine (Windows 10) I was using display link USB-HDMI Display Adapter to connect projector and Second Monitor. It worked very well. But after windows 10 anniversary
updates it stopped working. I tried with latest Display Link drivers. When I insert USB adapter in USB port built in screen becomes black.

    USB Monitor/Display link issue

Can you not override the driver from Device Manager?

  5. Not sure what you mean? Please elaborate more.
So far I've found two places to change the screen resolution and get the same results in both, settings could not be saved. This is the Windows 10 screen resolution settings. I can't even find display link in the Start Menu/Screen. It's not listed in Control Panel either. I think the beta driver I downloaded is the same one Windows Update offers up.
In Windows 8.1 I have a similar issue the first time I connect the monitor. The resolution is set incorrect and its blank. I can change it in 8.1 though and once I do that it works flawlessly after that. In 10 it won't let me save the changes, for what ever reason.

I simply meant installing back your ASUS driver via device manager.

  7. I could try that I guess. It's what got me Visual C++ debug errors. I haven't wiped 10 yet so I could try it.

  8. USB Monitor/Display link issue

Tried it again and same issue, debug errors until I click abort. I had another Displaylink driver from the same download location and Windows 10 blocked it from installing. The message telling me why disappeared before I could read it fully.

  9. I had issues with my external monitor. The MS basic display adapter was listed in DevMgr - so the AMD driver never got installed. There was a known issue with AMD graphic cards, but Brink posted a thread saying the MS had an update (get it through WU).

Ok ... that update never was offered. dunno why.

I ended up downloading the current AMD driver (not the beta) and installing that. I've done this before on previous 10 blds without issue. But.... this time I didn't get the CCC context menu (right click open desktop area) or the entry in Pgms&Feats. Tried again with the chipset drivers and then Pgms&Feats had AMD. I think this was more of a timing issue though - it might have shown up eventually. I even tried a repair from Pgms&Feats - no good.

DevMgr still showed MS driver - even after a restart. Scans for HW changes did not help.
Multiple inf installs of the Monitor driver (using the HP exe and the install inf from file) did not help.

I tried updating the device in DevMgr like a good boy - but I was beginning to get pissed off. *Wink

The AMD install went to C:\Program Files\AMD (I'm fairly certain it used to go to C:\AMD)

    The solution?
Download the AMD 14-12 driver package
go through the normal install process

If the monitor is still not co-operating ....

Update driver software for the display adapter using Dev Mgr
    select: Browse my computer ....
browse button to the AMD folder
    enable/select browse subfolders
    press [ Next ]

You might have to extract the files from the install using 7-zip.

I also noticed that Settings > System > Display incorrectly identifies my monitor - it still points at the laptop LCD
Control Panel Display and Dev Mgr correctly identify the 20" external

Changed to only show on display 2) and display 2 is the main monitor.
The resolution slider went up to the best setting for the ext monitor

Start menu icons are still blurry - but I think that's an app issue (probably padding an image - padding is more for text)
My first app attempts looked similar - then I removed padding from images in the app and set them to 'fit', not fill or stretch. MS will have to solve that - I've tried a few things and haven't found anything that affects the icons on Start .... so on to other things.

  10. It's a USB 3 connected monitor. It's a Displaylink/Windows 10 issue. Has nothing to do with my AMD graphics. Video and power all goes through the USB 3 cable. that's the only connection it has to my laptop.

  11. I bailed and went back to Windows 8.1. All I had to do was plug it in and Displaylink was installed automatically. A couple of reboots and its all setup and running great. I'm not going to mark this thread as solved as it not. I'll just let it fade away if nobody else responds. If a documented fix gets posted I may try it in Windows 10 again.

  12. If you decide to try again, consider downloading and installing the Displaylink software. You originally stated a C++ error so it might be necessary to update the corresponding C++ library as well.

If you have 30 GB of free disk space, it's easier to dual boot than to overwrite your base OS.
I've put 10 on VMs, separate partitions and VHDs. Each have pros and cons.

VMs - simple in Hyper-V or other software, but they lack real hardware tests. Hardware is emulated.

Separate partition - probably the best option. You can put Win10 on a logical drive as long as the boot information is available on a primary drive. If you use the 100 MB System Reserve partition, you can remove the drive letter for your 8.1 OS in Win10 so it is not exposed to the preview release. I haven't tried installing Win10 to an external drive yet, maybe the next drop.

VHD - can be anywhere you have sufficient space, even on C:\ - but ... Windows will not update to a VHD. You can initially install (ignoring the "you cannot install Windows to this location") , but the next release will download and complain about installing to a VHD. Windows Updates are fine, it's just an 'upgrade' issue. To get around that, I clean install to the VHD using either the ESDtoISO process or I use the ISO if it is available to download.

Good luck - it's still a preview release *Wink

My apologies for misreading the issue in my AMD post.

  13. USB Monitor/Display link issue

After un installing the original driver I was running in 8.1, Windows 10 downloaded and installed Displaylink as soon as I plugged the monitor back in. That's when I ran into the settings could not be saved issue. I also tried a driver right from the display link site V7.8 Beta, for Windows 10. Same deal, settings could not be saved. It's all in my first post. I like to run on real hardware so I can see it in real life. I may consider a VM though so I can at least have a look see for more than a couple of hours.

  14. Yes it is .. I missed some of it, my apologies.

Grins and giggles: manually update the AMD driver through Dev Mgr using files extracted
from either 14-12 or 15-4 download from AMD even though you say it's working.

I'll leave ya alone after this *Wink

  15. I've already gone back to Windows 8.1, where it works fine. It's a USB 3 monitor. It gets its power and video signal through the USB port. It doesn't use my AMD graphics at all. Not as far as I know anyway. It's all done with Displaylink over USB. I'll have a look in ccc when I fire up my laptop and see what it shows for the second display, it its listed. I'll have to have a look in device manager too so I know what's normal for that screen. maybe take a couple fo screen shots and save them away. Then when I try Windows 10 again I have something to go by and compare to.
