  1. USB Mouse Not Working and Error Code 39 for Mice and Other Pointing Devices

To add some pretext, which I think can be necessary, I had previously installed Oracle VMBox, but the bidirectional copy-paste function wasn't working. So, I downloaded guest additions to fix it, but that created a new problem. Whenever I disconnected my wireless USB mouse, my laptop crashed with a blue screen of death. After investigating the issue, I discovered that a file named VBoxMouse.sys was causing the problem. To solve it, I deleted the file from my host PC, which stopped the crashing issue when disconnecting the mouse. However, after some time, when I tried to use the USB mouse again,

All USB storage devices have code 39 error

    Hi Ilya,

Please answer these questions to assist you better.

    • Do you get same error codes in the Device manager too?
    • Does this issue occurs in other hardware components like keyboard and mouse?
    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • Do you get same error when you connect your extenal hard drive to a different computer running Windows 10?

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the issue.

I suggest you to check in Device Manager and check if you get the same error code. If yes follow link and perform the troubleshooting steps suggested under

  3. Unknown USB Device (Code 43) on USB Mouse

    Hi

I have been going round and round in circles trying to fix a problem with USB mice.

    Here's the problem:

    1. I have two Windows 10 laptops
    2. Windows 10 is up to date on both laptops
    3. I have two USB Mice
    4. Neither of the mice are now recognised by either laptop
    5. Both mice work perfectly well in a third laptop running Linux Mint and also on a Raspberry Pi

I have tried the following steps:

    1. Updated all the drivers, including USB
    2. Adjusted the USB power settings so the ports are not powered down to save power
    3. Run the Hardware Troubleshooter
    4. Booted in safe mode
    5. Removed the mouse driver
Having carried out the last action, I discovered some very strange behaviour:

    1. Having removed the mouse driver, I then plug in either of the mice.
    2. The system instantly recognizes it as a USB Mouse and installs all the driver.
    3. I get all the normal notifications telling me that it has been discovered, installing it and then ready to use.
    4. The mouse works fine for between 5 and 20 minutes.
    5. I then get a notification that the USB device is not recognized.
    6. Device Manager shows an Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) entry in the USB section.
    7. The system then refuses to recognise the mouse no matter how many times I pull it out and plug it in again or restart the machine.
    8. If I plug the other of the two mice in, the system recognises and the pattern repeats.
    9. After that, the system fails to recognize either device.

    This is driving me insane!

If anybody has a solution, that DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THE ABOVE, OR IS SIMPLY A STOCK ANSWER, please do let me know!!

  4. USB Mouse Not Working and Error Code 39 for Mice and Other Pointing Devices

    USB-mice not working

So I've had this problem earlier already but restarting the device used to help. Now it doesn't. Any mouse that I plug in gets recognized, the bottom right corner message, which says something like "USB-Mouse is being set up", then, a couple of seconds later,
it tells me that it finished but I can't move the mouse. I've tried wireless mice too, nothing new. My mouse gets powered and is on the device list of "Bluetooth and other devices". Something that might be related: in Device Manager under "Mice and other pointing
devices" I have 11 "HID-compliant mouse". I have a graphics tablet and using it to move the cursor works but is not optimal.

    Attempted solutions:

Rebooting (worked before, now it doesn't)

Plugging in other mice (mice don't work, keyboards and graphics tablets do)

Deleting all drivers from device manager (when I scanned for hardware changes all the 11 drivers came back)

Also plugging it out added one HID-compliant mouse in device manager and plugging it back in gave me another one.

    Solutions would be appreciated.

Edit: I Have Windows 10 dual boot with Ubuntu (Windows 10 installed first) and while i'm in Ubuntu my mouse worked perfectly.
