Windows 10: USB not recognized, at all: nothing, not even an error report.

Hardware: dell xps 12 9250

Running Windows 10 Home


Problem, (as above): none of my USB type C ports, or even *working* peripherals are being recognized, and they all *were*; prior to my last windows update.


Gone into my BIOS and all reported as working well.

Run Hardware Problem detector in Settings, and it reports nothing a miss with my hardware.


Opened and updated all USB port three drivers, but they were all apparently up to date.


Under (Power Settings), switched off fast boot.


From digging into March's posts on this site - I note that this happened during the spring update, and the problems was caused by stack updates being run out of sequence. The solution was to remove the windows updates, ... ????


Does that answer still hold good?

Won't doing that break windows?

How far back should I go, and how do I know if I'm doing more harm than good.


I feel that this question is relatively simply, but with all simple questions: there isn't a simple answer, and I might even not need to roll back the updates, especially if a new update already fixes this issue: of stack updates, or even weird USB issues.

USB not recognized error

My dad just bought an HTC Desire phone. He is not interested in synching it with his pc, but whenever he plugs the phone in through USB it gives an error saying that there was a malfunction and usb drive not recognized. We tried it in 3 different pc's and it gives the same error.

Installing the HTC Sync driver didn't work either - the software says the phone is offline, and it still pops up on the bottom right of the pc monitor that there was a malfanction and the usb is not recognized.

Am I missing something or could it be that the cable or phone is faulty?

You may receive this error if one of your USB connected devices is not properly recognized by the system. Let's try the troubleshooting steps provided by

In addition, we suggest that you turn off the notifications from the USB by following these steps:

• Open Settings by typing "settings" in Cortana's search box.
• Click on Devices.
• Locate USB and toggle the switch to Off.

External HDD Error: "USB device not recognized"

Hi!
I have an issue with an LaCie Rikiki external drive. As the title says, I get "USB device not recognized" error in Device manager with "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" status. The drive does not show up in Disk Management either. I have tried different USB cables on different PCs but with the same result.
