  1. USB Root Hub supporting only USB 3.0 while the controller is USB 3.1

I am using a Dell XPS 8930 Desktop

This desktop comes with a several USB 3.1 gen 1 ports USB 3.0 or SuperSpeed and one USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports USB 3.1 or SuperSpeedPlus.

There is one USB 3.1 port on Back Panel. See picture below.

    https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/xps-8930-desktop/xps-8930-setup-and-specification/back-panel?guid=guid-877ba665-2ca4-4167-98b8-83d31e6cc7cc&lang=en-us

I noticed that this port still performs at SuperSpeed only.

I am suspecting that this is because the USB Root Hub driver that runs on top of the underlying host controller is still USB 3.0, and not USB 3.1.

Here is the view from USBTreeView software. No devices were connected to any of the USB ports when I took this screenshot.

Also, Device Manager shows two separate "USB Root Hub" entries. Both of these entries show the driver is a Microsoft driver dated 5/9/20, Version 10.0.19041.264

    I have two questions.

1 There is only one USB 3.1 port on this computer. Why is there a "USB Root Hub" running and showing four ports? Whenever I plug in anything in that 3.1 port, it shows up under "Port1" of the USB 3.1 controller.

2 How do I enable 3.1 performance on the USB Root Hub driver? I have searched for "USB Root Hub 3.1 driver" but cannot find anything. The manufacturers Intel and ASMedia and Dell provide only the controller driver which I obviously have, but not the USB Root Hub Driver.

    Thank you in advance,

    :)

will usb 2.0 support usb hub

If the new hub has only 2-3 outlets you may get away with the hub not being powered, If the hub has 3 + hubs I suggest it has it's own power source , also try and get one with all USB 3 or at least a selection of USB 2 & 3.

More devices are coming out supporting USB 3, USB 2 will become obsolete soon.

USB 3 is normally backward capable, but USB 2 will not give the performance of USB 3. USB 3 has greater speed & flexibility.

  3. USB HUB

    Hi,

Incompatible USB hub driver is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend uninstalling the USB Root Hub driver and see if it helps. Follow the stepes below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand.
    • Right-click USB Root Hub, then click Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab.
    • Click Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.
Note: Restarting your computer will automatically reinstall a generic driver for your computer. Also, we suggest connecting your USB hub while performing the steps.

If the issue still persists, let's disable the USB selective suspend settings thru Power Options to resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Type Power Options in the search box, then press Enter.
    • Locate USB settings > USB selective suspend settings.
    • Select Disable.

Keep us in the loop with the result.

Windows 10 Creators update and Sandisk usb 3 flash drive not recognized as usb 3

I agree one problem exists as a result of Asus not updating the Intel USB 3 drivers for Windows 10 on my mobo solely because they say Windows 10 has newer USB 3 drivers. The problem with that statement is, Win 10 is using Microsoft's driver on the Intel
USB 3 eXtensible driver in Device Manager that says has the best driver and isn't taking sole control of the USB 3 controller.

Here's what I have in Device Manager:
