    Both of my computers that are running version 1909 18363.1016 are having trouble migrating some USB storage devices now, mainly thumb drives but some external USB powered drives also. They seem to be working normally but depending on the device they may only get a generic name like "USB flash drive" that's shown in file explorer. In device manager the names are displayed correctly, or so it seems. Upon inspecting the device related events in device manager, I noticed how one of these devices (a Western Digital Elements drive) had been removed on the day that july's NET. and cumulative (KB 4565483) updates were installed, I assume the "device was removed" means that it was un-installed from the system, the same way as they are un-installed when Windows is re-installed or upgraded.

    Strangely, my most used USB storage devices (some with WD SES drivers and some using native Windows ones) that have been installed before july's updates show no such events, but all new devices (two so far) that have been installed for the first time after aforementioned updates will not migrate. All non-storage USB devices seem unaffected, but then I've not added any new ones since july.

    I've scanned one of my computers for errors in Windows image with Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth but it found no corruption, so I think it's safe to say that whatever is the cause it may be "intentional".

    Since this is very easy to check I ask that anyone curious enough plug in their USB storage devices and check device manager for similar anomalies.

    I have 2 USB drives.

    For one drive, 'WD easystore 25FA USB Device Properties' _/Events\_ shows this:

    Device USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_WD&Prod_easystore_25FA&Rev_1018\575832314443384852543331&0 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.

    Last Device Instance Id: USBSTOR\DISK&VEN_GENERIC-

    For other drive, 'WD easystore 25FA USB Device Properties' _/Events\_ shows this:

    Device USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_WD&Prod_easystore_25FA&Rev_1014\5758333144353832394C5250&0 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.

    Last Device Instance Id: USBSTOR\DISK&VEN_GENERIC-

    What is meant by "migrated"?

    What would cause an "ambiguous match"?

    Is this anything to worry about?

    this happened after I installed the latest update and it wont let me roll back
