Windows 10: USB2 Memory Stick

Discus and support USB2 Memory Stick in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; i bought a new usb2 mem stick to replace an old loose one usb2 on my ancient windows xp standalone laptop.     USB2 Memory Stick


    i bought a new usb2 mem stick to replace an old loose one usb2 on my ancient windows xp standalone laptop. It tells me the stick is not formatted but also that it is unable to format it. My windows10 laptop has no problem reading/writing to the new stick. I use the stick for my design work on the old laptop so that I will not loose it when the computer dies, which it will. My drawing program is even older thatn the laptop and does not run on windows10. I suspect I need a new driver, but I can't down load one because it's a standalone. Can I download one onto my windows10 laptop and copy it

    usb2 memory sticks cause BAD POOL CALLER error and bsod.

    Has anyone else experienced this, and can you give me "simple" instructions to resolve, please.

    Inserting a standard usb2 memory stick in either the usb2 or usb3 port of a Toshiba Portege R835 laptop causes an immediate BAD POOL CALLER error and bsod. The computer cycles repeatedly through scanning and reboot unless I remove the usb2 drive. Did this
    with two different (8gb and 16 gb) usb drives. Testing a Western Digital portable drive worked fine, as did inserting a 32 gb usb3 memory stick. This happened first time (and every time) after upgrading from Windows 7 to W10. Otherwise, the laptop seems
    to be operating fine. Device Manager reports that all usb drivers are up to date and can find no newer, alternate drivers.

    Helpful, but not what we had hoped. I will explain later below.

    USB2 flash drives still causing BAD POOL CALLER error and crashes.

    I sequentially uninstalled each of the three programs you indicated might be the problem, first Norton AV, and then the others, too. Here is a link to the latest crash minidump:

    While your suggestions were not the immediate answer to this problem, uninstalling Symantic Norton Security did solve a different problem. For the last several days, W10 update had stopped working, and was reporting no information. I watched the little
    dots crossing the screen for hours. Uninstalling Norton cleared the blockage and W10 Update worked immediately. Thank you for that, Auggy. You get a gold star from me.

    Any further suggestions on the USB2 flash drives would be appreciated.
