USB3.0 Issues and Internal HDD shows as removable

that's the thing... I do have several restore points and they fail... I wanted to post on a seperate thread but feared I'm just spamming the forum.

So I'm getting an error message when the PC reboots after selecting a restore point:
    "System Restore Error: 0x80070005."
I don't have the screenshot but it appears to be a familiar issue back from Win7.
I disabled my Bitdefender (though I doubt it's the issue).
I probably need to set the Volume Shadow Copy service to Autostart (it's manual at the moment)
and maybe do MSCONFIG > enable all services

Basically the error message says that it wasn't able to access a file. Being the admin, this is a stupid error.

My one before the last resort is to unhide the built-in admin user in Windows and run the restore from there.
The last resort will probably be a repair install... which I'll try to avoid at any cost.

What's the consequences of this issue:
    1. I cannot reinstall MEI driver and services, either Win81. or Win10
    2. Cannot reinstall chipset driver, either Win8.1 or Win10.

I have two unknown devices in device manager.

It's not spamming the forum to ask questions relating to Windows 10.

I would post a new thread in either General Discussion, or BSOD Crashes and Debugging.
Other members more familiar with System Restore can help better than I on that one.

Not being able to access a file could mean that it can't restore because the original driver file is missing, or something similar.

When did the unknown devices show up? Were they always there, or did they show after you tried the MEI and chipset driver installs?

Have tried selecting devices and rolling back the driver?

Does the MEI driver show up in PROGRAMS (Control Panel > Uninstall Programs)?

    MEI does show up.
It happened during the saga of trying to figure out the USB3.0 issue on system wakeup.
So I got to a point where I couldn't install the drivers and more or even removing them. As if Windows just sped up the install process without copying and registering the files.

I was able to restore to a previous point but not far enough to the point where I don't have the Legacy Device....

    You can uninstall MEI then.

Curious why you are concerned about the Legacy Device. Is there a particular reason why you think it should not be there? There are lots of necessary legacy devices needed for backward compatibility.

    Good question....

I recall 3 days ago whilst messaging with you, that you told me that it's better to install the old verified WHQL signed drivers for the chipset and USB 3.0.
When I decided to try the Beta USB or Chipset driver for Win10 by Asus, there was a legacy device which wasn't working properly. It had the yellow triangle warning in Device Manager > System Devices.
I then manually installed some driver and it got accepted by Windows and then changed name from Legacy Device to some Root USB hub or something.
Now I'm not able to repeat this step...

As for the USB 3 not working as USB 3 anymore after wake up, I think it's a bug in the motherboard when waking up.
But, if I use hibernate (just because I love fast booting), it works as USB 3. I wonder if it has something to do with C states in BIOS settings.
I currently only have C3 enabled.

No, it wouldn't have anything to do with C states, IMHO.

    But you could try this:
    • Check and record ALL of your current UEFI/BIOS settings
    • Check (usually under the Advanced Tab) for your USB settings. Note what you have here in particular.
    • Then go to the Exit Tab and Restore Defaults > Save Changes and Exit
    • Immediately go back into UEFI/BIOS and compare the default settings to what you had.
    • Restore any settings YOU ARE SURE you need (Like SATA Mode = AHCI if Windows was installed in AHCI Mode and your BIOS defaults to IDE).
    • Exit Saving Changes (if you made any) and then let it boot into Windows
    • Test the USB problem while on BIOS Defaults

See if that changes anything for the better.
