  1. Use Machine with Cellular connection as a gateway over ethernet

I have one machine (Machine A) running Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). It has a cellular connection to the internet using a Telit module. It does not have Wifi. I want other machines to be able to access the internet via the Ethernet cable using machine A. I know I am supposed to be able to share a connection but something seems fundamentally broken. Older versions of Windows used to be able to do this.

So, what should happen is under the connection properties select Share this Connection and choose the Ethernet connection I want to share it with. I get the message stating that it will now set the IP to 192.168.137.1 and that I should set machine B to use DHCP. Machine B just does not pick up a config when connected. I can't even manually configure it to work. Machine A has 2 Ethernet ports so If I use port A to connect to the internet and share that with port B then everything works as expected. The problem is these machines will be in a remote location and only have cellular access. It's like the ethernet just cannot communicate properly with the cellular. It is as though Microsoft has invested everything into Wifi Hotspots and neglected to fix the other options.

Has anyone tried to do this? Any ideas?

    :)

[Solved] Create a network between a machine with a in-wall Ethernet connection and a wireless laptop

I have two machines that I want to join as a network in order to have a common a folder. i.e. I have a folder called "work" that I want to be able to edit and save on using both machines.

    Machine 1: (Windows 10 Pro)

    • Is hard cabled into an in-wall Ethernet socket that goes directly to the ISP gateway for the house.
    • Does not have a wireless network card.
    Machine 2: (Windows 10 Home)

    • Is wirelessly connected to a router which is hard cabled into an in-wall Ethernet socket that goes directly to the ISP gateway for the house

Both, the router and machine 1 are cabled to the same ISP gateway.

Is it possible for me to create the network? If so, how would I go about doing it?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Solution:

I used a third-party software called LogMeIn Hamachi to create a VPN server in order to share the folder.

  3. Since 1709 update cellular network not responding when other connection (Ethernet or Wifi) is active

    Hello Jonas Flo,

Thanks for reply, but we already try to update every Driver/Firmware/etc... Nothing has changed.

I'm really sure we have issue with Microsoft due to the OS upgrade 1703 to 1709.

Since this upgrade, the cellular network work fine alone but stop responding when another connection (Ethernet or Wifi) is active and a link is detected. This is not a routing issue. If we set the Ethernet interface with 10.0.0.1/24 without gateway,
we cannot reach Internet through Cellular connection.

We also notice that, as soon as a link is detected on wifi or Ethernet Connection, Cellular Interface change and the name of the ISP disappears.

We found other people affected by the same issue in the same scope (Cellular works well with Ethernet interface until upgrade to 1709)

We have tried all solutions by registry/Powershell/GPO/etc... without success.

    • Proposal 1: changing the cost of connection
    Change registry :
    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-ethernet-connection-metered-windows-10

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\DefaultMediaCost

    3G and 4G = 1

    Default/Ethernet/wifi = 2

    Change Metric :

    Ethernet = 100

    Cellular = 10

    • Proposal 2: We have downloaded and installed all the last drivers from manufacturers.
    • Proposal 3: Trying to upgrade to the insider version 1803 "Insider Program"

But nothing .... thanks for your help...

  4. Use Machine with Cellular connection as a gateway over ethernet

Data trough 4G mobile broadband connection blocked when ethernet connected

    Hi Robert,

It appears that Windows is managing your connection. It only allows you to connect to your mobile broadband connection if you're not connected to either Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. To work around this behavior, I suggest disabling this feature to allow
you to manually connect to your cellular or mobile connection. Please follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular.
    2. Uncheck the box for Let Windows manage this connection.
    3. Once done, try connecting manually to your mobile broadband while Ethernet is connected and see if it works.

For more information about mobile broadband connection, please check out,

Please update this thread with the result so I'll be able to assist you further if needed.

    Regards.
