Build 10041 is the only OS I ever use, lately.
I just don't enter any sensitive data or conduct any personal business/banking on it.

Use Win10 as main OS ??

I know it is a test system, but I have been running windows 10 since november without much bumps (not as main OS though), but as written I had to put new HW in my PC and therefore I have to clean install. My question was not if Win10 is a test or not, but if Win10 was "good" and "secure" enough to work as a main OS.

You'll never get a definitive answer. I think yes, others think no. I think they are wrong, they think I'm wrong.

If you even have to ask though you are probably best staying on 7 or 8 or whatever.

Bingo.. it's really up to each person what they want to do and the level of risk they are will to take with Win10. Right now I really like using Win8.1.1 as my primary and then I test/play with WIn10 in VMWare.. When Win10 hits RTM then I'll use that as my primary,

I intend to undertake a clean install with Build 10041 from a memory stick onto my main PC.

All of my Data, Games, Documents and Email (I use Windows Mail hacked from Vista) are on separate hard drives, so have no fear of loosing anything. I will however also install Windows 8.1 onto a second SSD, I can than always duel boot back into Win 8.1 if required.

I just need a few hours spare time. *Sad

Use Win10 as main OS ??

If you browse around on this forum, the short answer will be NO with all those problems and issues posted here.
You can use it as a main OS installed separately but DON'T REPLACE your existing 7 or 8 with it. Don't save your important data with it unless you have a back up on external drives.
Security depends on what you do with it. But personally, I don't do banking and online shopping with Win 10.

  9. I have been running as main is on my secondary machine, testing apps, etc. I have daily backups of any important data and can afford to have the system wiped out by a bug, etc. If it were my ONLY machine, I wouldn't dare. I have done online banking and shopping from it, mainly because that is browser based with TLS/SSL and the browser I'm using is not beta. Good rule of thumb, don't use more than you are willing to risk your data.

Many of us use as a main OS on main machine, some on a spare machine and others in VM's.
Everyone personal circumstances and computer resources available to them is different.

I have it as a MAIN OS on my MAIN machine, that choice was based on my usage, where my data is stored etc (i essentially have nothing to lose if anything goes wrong).

I have many Computers/Laptops and Virtual Machines at my disposal but others don't so may be more reserved when making a decision about if and when to make the switch to 10.

Ultimately, this is a very opinion based subject, using the opinions of others will help you make an informed decision on whether to use 10 as the main OS or not.

Personally, if you only have 1 machine, continue using Windows 7/8, although I'm sure there are people here that may only have 1 machine who have made the switch, they are neither right or wrong in doing that.

Yes, it was not a specific answer I was looking for (as I know how different we all are *Wink) but an opinion of what others are doing. If f.i. 90% wrote they have tried and gone again from Win10 as MAIN OS for now, I would not have any doubs, but if 90% wrote they where using it as MAIN OS, I would have to think if I want to continue with the bugs I have, or go back to Windows 8.1.1. As written I have used win10 since november, but for every new build I seem to get another thing that don't work *Confused.

I am now back into Windows 8.1.1 and will end in this thread.

Thank you all very much for your answers and ideas *Smile

See you again when Windows 10 is RTM. I will buy it as soon as it is for sale in my language.

You must (THIS IS IMPORTANT) bear in mind that I am 87% cleverer than your average. Therefore my point of view may be 43% less important on the subject of 8.1.1 and 113.2% more important on the subject of cheese it nonetheless may have some bearing on the issue.

    Whatever it was.

    Hope that is clear now.
