Windows 10: Used computer with mixed up accounts with parental controls

I bought a used HP touchscreen laptop from Amazon,it came with 1 yr free of Microsoft. I set up my computer like we all do and had no problems at all but as soon as I claimed my free year of Microsoft,I go and log nto my account and I see hat I was put onto a family account with me being a child I'm 22 and another person being the parent. I can't install any apps or do certain things on my computer or in Microsoft/windows because of that. I contacted Microsoft support team to figure it out and they said since I don't have access to that parent account that there is nothing I can do and it go

Parental Controls aren't working

Hi,

The issue could be because of corrupted files. I suggest you to delete the corrupted files yourself and see if it helps

to resolve the issue, please follow these steps:

1) Make sure your children are signed out of any monitored accounts.

2) Sign in with an administrator account and find the folder that contains the corrupted files.

There are two ways to do this. The easiest way is to enter the complete file path:

• 
  On the Start screen, type C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls and press Enter.
  

• 
  If you’d rather open each folder individually, follow these steps:
  

a. Go to This PC

b. Open C:, open the
ProgramData folder, open the Microsoft folder, open the
Windows folder, and open the Parental Controls folder.

3) Delete all contents of the Parental Controls folder.

This will delete any corrupt files. Your settings will be downloaded again from familysafety.microsoft.com the next time you sign in.

Parental Controls in Windows 10 - Local Account

I've read several posts on this topic but may have missed one that explains how to

• use an existing local account
• or make that existing local account the add-on child's account
• or establish a new account and transfer all favorites to the new account.

I have a special needs child that will totally freak if he loses all his favorites in making the transition that Windows 10 requires for parental controls ... and I don't want to spend the time to add hundreds of favorites to a new account.

Like many others, I have no reason to

• set up restrictions on other devices

• establish a Microsoft account for my son

• establish an email account that won't be used and will then be deleted if it's not used

I don't mind going back to Windows 7 - where parental controls worked perfectly without the need to jump through hoops - now that I'm using Windows 10, I'd prefer to stick with it BUT only if I can get working parental controls.

Has anyone discovered the solution?
