Windows 10: Used space of drive is more than actual usage

I am facing the low free space of my C drive, But I can't find what actually consumes the free space. All tools I used to stat the space report me that there is only 51G used but the drive properties says that I have used 95G space.I have disable the system restore, page file and hibernate file. and my drive is encryted by bitlock defenderDrive properties shows that used space is 95GBut all filesinclude hidden and protected system files shows that there are only 51.8G. Using WinDirStats, du64 from systemiternals show the same result. Where is my other 40G free spaces?

Mismatched Space Usage

The cause of this is due to the filing system the storage device is formatted in.

You may try to fix read-only error with the following simple instruction.

Step 1: Click on your "Start Menu", type cmd in the search bar, then hit "Enter".

Step 2: Type command diskpart and hit "Enter". A new command line window will open.

Step 3: Type list disk and hit "Enter". (make sure your devices has been listed out, for example, it is listed as disk 0)

Step 4: Type the command select disk 0 and hit "Enter". Now you've removed the read-only attribute from the storage devices. Type
exit and hit "Enter" to leave the DiskPart utility.

If the suggestion above doesn't work in your case, try to correct Read-Only error by reformatting.

You can just use a reliable third-party partition reformatting tool like
MiniTool Partition Wizard.

Be sure to copy any and all file from the drive as all the data on the drive will be erased. This can be a simple task or a long undertaking depending on the size and usage of the storage device, but is a necessary and important step.

 

Windows 10 : Disk space usage shown upon Folder Property doesn't reflect actual disk space used ?!

I use a USB 3.0 drive to backup my PC and NAS drives. I create folder for every device being backed up, and run robocopy from the source to its corresponding folder on the USB drive.

Recently I've been concerned that my backups have been dropping files, as for example, my Photos NAS drive contains about 1.4 TB of data, whereas it's USB backup folder for that NAS drive, showed only a total of 215 GB being held therein!! Needless to say
I was a bit concerned.

The way I have been checking the disk space usage within the USB drive, is to right click on the backup folder, and select "Properties".

I was eventually able to confirm actual disk space usage with a 3rd party tool called "WinDirStat" which drills down into each folder summing up space used by each individual file.

My question, is why is there such a huge difference between the Size shown on the Properties tab, from the actual space used - what's wrong with Windows here ?
