    User Access Control confusion

I have the following strange issue:
On my PC I have a Windows Administrator, a Local Administrator and a Standard User account. I use the Standard user account for day to day tasks. If I need to use an elevated Command prompt or install new software, then I'm asked to enter an administrator user name and password.
The options that I see are:
    1. Pre-selected is the user name of the Local Administrator and a password is prompted for.
    2. Below that there is an option to use a fingerprint. I found out by experimentation that it's the Windows Administrator fingerprint that is needed here.
    3. Below that there is a choice for the Windows Administrator's PIN.
    4. Below that there is a choice for the Local Administrator's PIN.

I read Change UAC prompt Behavior for Standard Users in Windows, but I didn't find anything there that could help me.

Is there a way to change these options? For example I would prefer to use the Local Administrator's fingerprint instead of the Windows administrator's account fingerprint.

It's also interesting that the Windows Administrator has a password in addition to the PIN, but that option is not offered.

    I'm running Windows 10 Pro v.2004 on a Dell Inspiron 5482 2-in-1 laptop.

    :)

Current active users that are friends

The other reason I suggested this is that users can add characters to their username that are not alphanumeric (e.g. user*). This confuses things somewhat when looking at the list.

  3. User Access Control Issue

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    Method 1: Verify UAC settings.

    1. Press Windows key and type "UAC". Under the search options, click on
    Change User Account Control Settings.

    2. Make sure you didn't keep the slider towards Never Notify.

Method 2: Run a System file checker.

If the User Account Control settings are correct but the issue persists, then run a system file checker scan and see if it helps.

    Follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X and click onCommand Prompt (Admin).
Kindly provide the administrative password, if prompt appears.
    • Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
    • Exit Command Prompt.
For more information about SFC Scan click on the link below:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

(Steps for Windows 8.1 are also applicable in Windows 10)

Note: Run the System file checker thrice if systems errors were not corrected in first attempt for SFC.

Hope this helps. Please respond if you have further related queries.

    The Control Panel (Category View)

My apologies, Brink but I still do not get it.

The steps for both options are identical, the only difference is the location of the desired icons will need to be accessible for all users for Option 2. That's it.

Moreover, both the Mail and Flash Player (32-bit) applets are not listed in the list of Control Panel items for both options.

    Regards,
    Andrew
