  1. User account exists but not showing using net user or computer management

My situation is similar to User Profile exists, but not showing up in control panel or login - Microsoft Community I created a user in windows 11 pro and this was linked to office 365. I then created a local admin user. The inital user showed as an admin and I was unable to change this to standard. I then tried to delete the account so I could start over. The account no longer shows in the control panel/ accounts/ Other users. It does not show as an account when using the command prompt/ net user nor when using lusrmgr. But it still shows on the log in screen and I can still log in.How do I so

    :)

  3. User Account

    Hi Barry,

We cannot use a standard (local) account to change the account type to administrator. We can only use an existing administrator account to do this.

We suggest following these steps on how to change the account type to administrator using the existing administrator account:

    • Press Windows key + X on your keyboard, then click on
      Control Panel
      .
    • Choose User Accounts, and then select User Accounts again.
    • Under Make changes to your user account, click on Manage User Accounts. (It will show all user accounts and administrator account on the computer.)
    • Sign out and log on with any administrator account.
    • Go back to Control Panel/User Accounts.
    • Click on Manage User Accounts and then select the standard account you wish to change.
    • Select the Change Account Type option.
    • Select the Administrator option to change the account and click the
      Change Account Type button.

Get back to us if you have other concern.

  4. User account exists but not showing using net user or computer management

Account not listed by net user

    Good day,

I am trying to login to a laptop using an account with administrator rights. Unfortunately, this account seems to be locked - when attempting to login I get a message stating 'The referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on to'.

Following advice found on forums, etc. I then access command prompt in recovery mode and use 'net user <myusergoeshere> /active:yes' to unlock the account. This fails with an error stating that the user name could not be found. I then list all users using 'net user' and lo and behold, the user is not listed.

My question is, how can I get a message saying an account is locked for a user that does not exist? Surely the user must exist and is just not being listed by net user?

I now find myself in a situation where I have no other accounts for which I can remember the passwords and the account I do remember the password for is locked (but seems to not exist??). Seems I now have no choice but to reset and lose data. Bummer.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
