    user accounts confusion and permissions

hi. though i am quite a seasoned windows pc user, i have thus far not had experience with additional user accounts. i have recently migrated to a new pc with the help of pc mover software. what i did not realize is that i had created an extra user account and that perhaps the initial user account was generated by pc mover. in any case, in my new user account i am able to view all the migrated files though i am having some trouble with some of them prompting with permissions related error messages. while i can simply log into the initial user account and work from there, unfortunately i have do

    Marie,

Dir is a command that lists the contents of a folder.

2 Constant / recurring SFC problem detection are a concern. I suggest that, the next time it detects problems, you use the guidance in the SFC tutorial to post the last SFC results [just delete the earlier ones from your post because they will just confuse the picture].

3 This issue makes me think that there is still an overall Windows problem because the search index is nowhere near any of the user folders. When you are going to have time to spare you might usefully consider a Clean install [If I remember correctly, you got away with just doing a Repair install before].
    - If there are no further symptoms of problems then you might just make a note to do this in the fullness of time [as I did for an annoying yet non-critical problem on my computers two or three years ago. Time has not yet reached fullness.].

4 I do not think that either SFC or DISM can detect faults with a user account. If you see such reports again, use the SFC tutorial to extract & paste results.

5 I suggest that you have at least one spare password-protected, local Admin account. If your 'proper' accounts ever suffer from corruption, a local account is a more reliable/straightforward fallback and it needs to be Admin in case remediation actions need Admin permissions.
    - Write down its password somewhere secure yet accessible just as you have done for the other user accounts on your computer.

    All the best,
    Denis

    File permissions for another user

Still no joy. Test User can still write to the file. *Sad
    This are the steps I have done;

    1. Created file in User account
    2. Copied file to Test User account
    3. Signed into Test User account
    4. Right click file
    5. Properties > Security > Edit > Add Test User > Allow Read > Deny Write > Advanced > Change Owner to Administrators > To Remove User account had to disable inheritance which removed all accounts except Test User and Administrator
    6. Test User can still write to the file!!

Still stuck. Test User still has full control of the file, he can write, modify, cut, copy, paste in fact as if the permissions had not been changed. *Confused

It shouldn't. Stop it now and try to use Quick format. That should take much less than a minute.

Right-click on it, Format …, set the Quick format checkbox, Start.

Remember that this is only a test. The procedure for making it into an installation USB will reformat it again anyway. I'm only suggesting using Quick format so you can see if the USB is responding normally. If it is not then I suggest replacing it.
