User Name is cut short in File/Windows explorer

When you go to %USERPROFILE%\ the user should show as Foh, or at least , but for some reason it comes up as "varxt". When I connect to this computer from my laptop, it shows Computer Name> users> "varxt" (without quotes)

Does any one know why this is? Ive gone to Computer Properties and to User/Account Settings. Nothing to indicate theres a problem.
I have Windows 10 on my Laptop and Windows 7 on another Desktop I have. Neither exhibit this issue. Ive also gone through Afterdawn, Google, Tomshardware, and Microsoft forums to see if anyone has had similar issue. I can find anything.
Earlier I was encouraged to start a new Admin User account on this computer, and for a while it did the trick. but a couple of days later when I tried to log it, the computer only recognized my original User, and any attempts to recreate another Admin User failed as it keeps asking for an email and password to associate with the new User account. I do not want to create a whole new microsoft account for this as everything (Microsoft and XBox) are already associated with the original account.

Can anyone help. this is pretty frustrating.

    :)

Is there a specific "3rd party program" that you have in mind? caus' honestly that's the most vague solution to a problem Ive seen in a while. "3rd party programs" could rightly include drivers.

    So... ya...

I asked a question, and yes I got an answer...

But my question was more in the direction of "Hey, is anyone aware of this problem, and if so, are there any known solutions?"

You gave me "Well it could be anything, so uninstall everything!" lol

    Hi,

Thank you for being a part of Windows 10.

The issue could be due to some third party programs. I would suggest you to boot the computer into clean boot and Check if the issue persists.
Clean boot will eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is
causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Follow How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot from article KB929135 to reset the computer to normal mode.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other issues with Windows in future.

User Name is cut short in File/Windows explorer

That is the default way Windows creates your user profile when creating a new user profile using an MS Account. When the MS email account holder's first name is more than five letters, the user profile name will be the first five letters of the first name. When the first name is less than five letters, the profile name uses a five letter acronym created from the first and last name. The only way to get the Windows user profile name match the first name when creating a new MS Account is if the first name is exactly five letters long.

    Examples:
The fix is to create your user account first as a local account, naming it as you'd like your user profile to be named, sign in to this local account and now when the profile has been created with your preferred name, convert it to an MS Account. In your case, when setting up your user account when installing Windows 10 or when creating the account later on an existing system, you need to create your user account as a local account with username Varxtis Foh, then sign in to this account and convert the local account to an MS Account.

That makes sense. I appreciate it. I'm the morning... well a little bit later today I'll try and give it a go. The only problem is, as far as I can tell, theres no option to create a "local user". It tells me to login a new account using pre-existing MS account, or create a new MS account. But I'll have to confirm this a bit later. Thank you again.

Of course there is. Simply click the Skip this step in the user creation dialog and create a local account in next dialog:

Saweeet! Thank you so much. I thought I had tried that, but I had only tried the whole "I Don't have an email account"option. Thank you for the screen print. That helped out a lot!
