  1. User Not Able to Rename Folders on Any Computers

I have an unusual issue where a specific user is not able to rename folders on any computer she logs onto. She can create and delete folders that she can't rename. This occurs on any computer she logs onto, including newly imaged computers that she's never used before. On the same computers, any other user doesn't have this problem. Here's what we've tried so far and other considerations:1. Deleted existing profile on computer she is normally assigned. New profile has the same issue.2. Logged on with my own account to her computer and can rename any folder including folders on her desktop.3. V

  2. Renaming the users folders

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

You are trying to rename the User folder, which can’t be done through the File explorer. Whatever user name you use of your User account, user account folder will have same name. You can rename the Subfolder of the User account folder but not User
    account folder.

If you want rename the User account folder, change user account name using the suggestion

Lets’ refer to these steps to rename the User account and check if that helps.

    • Press Windows and X keys together.
    • Click on Control Panel, click on User Accounts.
    • Click on User account, then click on “Change your account name
    • If it’s prompting for password please enter and click on Yes. If you do not have password click on
      Yes.
    • Enter the new user name.
    • Click on change name.

  3. User Folder Renamed

It is totally unclear what you did and how. The fact is that Windows will not let you rename your profile folder while you are logged on. The only way goes like this. Note that this is is an unsupported operation that could cause serious problems:

    1. Log on under a different account, one that has admin privileges.
    2. Rename the folder C:\Users\Nath to C:\Users\Nathan
    3. Adjust certain keys in the registry to reflect the change.

Now please report exactly what you did.

    Renaming User Folder Windows 10

For some reason, my computer has my user folder named as "carol" when my name is in fact, not Carol. I am logged into my Windows account so it should be my name. I tried to follow the steps of creating a new admin user account and then renaming from there,
however when I did that and attempted to log back on to my account it wasn't able to read any of my files. Giving me the error that it's not logging me into my account and starting in a safe mode, saying it can't read my user profile. To fix this issue I just
had to go back and rename the folder "carol" and now it works again.

How can I rename this user folder successfully?

    Thanks!

    Annah
