Windows 10: User Profile Changed Into Backup and logged in using a default new profile

recently on 18-8-2020 my pc updated automatically . after the upate as i logged in my laptop .... it was as if i bought a new computer and there were no files in my desktop and other folders. when went in The Pc- Users- {My Main Account Username } i found all my files in it. but the profile was not local one but a backup profile . pls help to get my main profile back by coverting it to a local profile from a backup profile

I have been using ExShire's method for getting around the problem and for the most it has been working. I did have a computer yesterday that even after going through all the steps would still set the profile to backup at the next login. A few more reboots
after that and it started working for me again but the end users account was still having the issue.

On one of the machines I logged in with a new account which created a new profile. That logged in fine, but after I logged out and back in with that same account it changed it to a backup. I don't believe a brand new profile usually corrupts in 5 minutes,
and so many throughout our district.

I guess what I'm looking for is if there is a way to discern what is causing this and prevent it from continually happening.

I work at a school district with Win 7 and 10 machines. Our users log in using AD accounts, and as of recently we have been having instances where a user will log into their machine and will find that they are being logged in with a temporary profile. After
checking the user profiles I find that the users normal account has been changed to a backup. Most of the time this can be fixed with a restart, but sometimes we need to manually go into the registry and change the profile back, as shown here User profile status set to backup

As it is now we have workarounds, but this comes and goes in waves. Does anyone know what could be causing this type of behavior? The machines that this happens on vary quite a bit so I have to believe that it is a Windows issue.

UPDATE:

Now I am seeing where even after changing the profile from backup to local, at next login it reverts to backup again.

 

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.
