Windows 10: USERS FOLDER Shows old name of Microsoft Account

Discus and support USERS FOLDER Shows old name of Microsoft Account in Windows 10 Customization to solve the problem; I've checked everywhere, there was an old post relating to my problem but has been archived since 2012 ...I've tried everything it was suggested with...     USERS FOLDER Shows old name of Microsoft Account


    I've checked everywhere, there was an old post relating to my problem but has been archived since 2012 ...I've tried everything it was suggested with no luck! I'm running win 10 Home with all recent updates, PC is running good no problem whatsoever other than old account that is in the process of being removed takes 60 days according to MS have 30 plus days to go yet for COMPLETE REMOVAL!

    My question is twofold perhaps multi-fold , don't know yet what may pop-up!

    First and foremost , once the 60 days for the deletion of my old account have passed, will all traces be gone!? If so , I can wait!

    Meanwhile the old account in the process of being deleted is creating all sort of headaches ...even though I have created a new MS account the old one seems to be the preferred one , all downloads still go to USER/ Damned old name/ when I open a Command Prompt it reads C;/ Users/ old name and NOT my new user Account of which I have Administrator rights...this can be very irritating , when I go to delete some old photos I'm told that I don't have permission, I'm the owner/Administrator of this darned machine but I need permission!??

    To reiterate...if the old account causing all this trouble will be gone in 30 days, I guess I can wait, but I have a sinking feeling that that old moniker is gonna haunt me still. What say you!?...should I wait and see or take a more proactive attitude and clobber that old moniker to smithereens !? I'm not confident enough to mess with Registry , so please don't even mention it!

    Thx, for any suggestions, this has been a real headache and I would love a fix!

    P.S. I've already done two complete computer refresh...no help!!

    User Account Folder Name

    Here's a workaround to rename the user account folder:

    • Unlink your Microsoft Account from your Windows 10 device which will result for your account to be converted as a Local account.
    • Create a new Local account, name it using your preferred account and folder name then set it as Administrator.
    • Sign in to your Windows 10 device using the newly created local admin account.
    • Link your Microsoft Account to the newly created local admin account.

    After doing the steps above, check if this resolves your concern. If so, migrate all your files from the old account to the new user account and delete the previous one.

    I understand that you are facing issues with changing the folder name under Users folder in Windows 10.

    I suggest you to perform the below steps and check if it helps.

    1. Open the File Explorer and double click on C drive.

    2. Open Users folder from the list.

    3. Click on the user name folder and then tap on F2 Key.

    4. Change the name of the folder and hit on Enter Key.

    5. It will ask for Administrator Permission and click on Ok.

    6. Folder name will be changed.
