Using a Greennet switch to add ports to a business network

Note: My computer specs are not applicable to this specific problem. If needed, I can probably obtain the general stats for the desktops connected to this network Monday.

I'm in the process of refreshing my skills after many years and networking classes are 20 years ago. Hoping someone can give me a jump on this problem so I can start solving it before I've trudged through an indeterminate number of online courses (though I still intend to take them).

This Greennet switching device is being used at a small business in an attempt to extend available ports to connect more desktops to the MPLS network so they can be added to the shared domain. It's not working. My first thought was I needed to set it's own static IP address but I've learned from the device's site that it's a plug-n-play device and you can't adjust the settings at all. Also, each computer has a static IP and I'm not sure how that would jive with setting one IP address on the device. My suspicion is it's more intended for casual home use and is not intended for this type of use. The FAQ does, however, have this line: "The TEG-S80g can be utilized to expand the available ports on your existing router or network."

Can someone point me in the right direction to finding a solution? Is this device workable at all? Is there another that would fulfill this function until we can get more ports properly connected to the network for these computers?

    :)

  3. How do you add a review to a business found using maps.

have a Samsung Focus. Used Bing to find a tire store. They did a great job and I went back to the reviews tab and there is no way to leave a review.

First, why is it not allowed?

Second, how do you add a review?

Yes, the TEG-S80g is a non-managed switch. It's a $20 device mainly targeted at consumers.

Can you provide more details about how the rest of the network is set up - routers, protocols, switches, number of users?

Believe it's TCP/IPv4 and I don't know exactly how many users but no more than about 50 currently with room for expansion probably until we run out of IP addresses (250ish). I don't know the details on routers or switches but can hopefully find that out on Monday as well and post again. Thank you for replying so quickly.

Sorry for the delay. I've been in security classes and have had very limited access to a computer at work and have had full nights after work. I did gather some info but I just found out today that new ports are being connected properly in that room tomorrow so I'm going to close this thread.'

    Thank you, PN!

    Hi there

    @Dalebert

Network switches are a great idea even for home networks

e.g cheap one can be had for as little as 12 EUR - can be used both for WIFI (better @5GHZ) and LAN ports

    I have a 5 port Netgear GS205

this snippet should give you more info.

    SOHO Switch Series - GS205 | Switches | Networking | Home | NETGEAR

You'll also get better network throughput than individual connections to a router -- even a cheap consumer switch will work at 1 Gb/s and users won't even know they are on a switch.

    Cheers
