Windows 10: Using alt keys to write accent marks

Hi. I bought a new keyboard and for some reason, cannot use the alt keys to create accent marks for Spanish communications. Whenever I hit, for example, alt+173 to get an upside down exclamation point, a new tab opens instead, and I lose the site on which I was working. I've tried using the Spanish language settings; that didn't work. Can someone please advise? Thank you...

Accents and Ñ with right alt key

hi, i use to have a surface pro 4 with windows 10 and i always could type accent by typing (right alt + o) for ó and the same for á, é, í, and ú. and (alt + n ) for ñ.

Now i bought a surface pro 9 with windows 11 and it doesn't work that way, i always have to change keyboards and use the Spanish keyboard to type accents and Ñ.

Please help im getting tired of switching keyboards every time i use my surface.

Follow the steps below to open On-screen Keyboard.

Step 2: Run Hardware and device Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your devices. Refer these steps:

  Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.

How to Make Spanish Accent over e - What else is there?

To make é ç ó and other accented characters the easy way, I switch my keyboard to 'US English International'. Now I can create accents like those three examples by typing the ' key followed by the character I want the accent to appear on. Others available include ü (" followed by u) and â (^ followed by a).
