  1. Using an external HD that was encrypted by BitLocker on another machine.

Hello, I have a laptop with Windows 10 Pro that can encrypt external HDs with BitLocker. I am switching most of my work to a laptop with Windows 11 Home that does not seem to have capability to encrypt external HDs with BitLocker. If I encrypt an external HD with the Windows 10 Pro machine, can I use that drive on the Windows 11 Home machine? Can I save files on the external HD from the 11 Home and would they be secure/encrypted? Thank you!

    :)

    BitLocker not respondind during encryption

    hi

I got Windows 10 Home upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (brought from Microsoft Store)

I BitLocked the C-drive + internal D-drive just fine. My PC is without a TPM-chip. I followed the fine instructions from www.windowscentral.com - how use bitlocker encryption.

Then I started to BitLock the external HD - and it stoped at 24.1% and the window with the progresion-bar said "not responding" - tryed Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop the BitLocker-process but no luck

I restarted my PC - into Control Panel -> System and Security -> BitLocker Drive Encryption and saw my internal D-drive was locked and I opened it just fine - BUT my external HD (the one that stoped encrypting at 24.1%) is sawing also to be locked
    - I tryed to unlock it. Then I saw the little BitLocker-progression-window sawing 24.1% and "not responding" - a little later the PC stoped working and after a few seconds I got a black screen :-(

How do I get my external HD finish BitLocking. Please help

Using an external HD that was encrypted by BitLocker on another machine.

Virtual Machines (and other data) on BitLocker encrypted external HDD

I recently got enough money to buy a new external 2 TB HDD. I want to store all my music, movies, videos and most of my pictures on it. The things that will take up the most space will certainly be virtual machines. Since I want to protect all of this data,
I want to set up BitLocker Drive Encryption on it as soon as I get it.

First question: Should I use Compatible mode or New Encryption mode for this external HDD? I am not sure what operating systems does my school's PCs run at all, but it probably includes Windows 7.

Second question: Will it hurt my external HDD to run virtual machines on it (largest VM for me cap at 64GB, which is Windows 10 Insider Preview) in the long run? Also, I am not really doing too intensive things on these virtual machines, just web browsing,
reading things in them, and just admiring their looks and stuff. (I know its a trashy reason to have VMs at all but its enjoyable to me so Using an external HD that was encrypted by BitLocker on another machine. :p)

Third question: Are VMs even portable enough with having shared folders and stuff mapped to them which will stay on my PC?

Fourth question: Can VMs even run when they are running on BitLocker-encrypted drives?

I think these are 3 simple questions that I am too dumb to really know and I don't wanna deal with an external HDD that dies in the span of months. Thanks a lot in advance!

    Techincal details:

Host OS: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 64-bit

    CPU: i5-7200U

    RAM: 8GB

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 620 Mobile

    PC Model: Dell Vostro 5568

    External HDD Model: Maxtor M3 Portable 2TB 2.5" 5400RPM 32MB USB 3.0 Black STSHX-M201TCBM (failure rate 1,6%)

Software for VMs: VMWare Workstation Pro 15.1.0
