Windows 10: Using Apple Super optical drive

Trying to use an Apple optical drive on my HP Windows 10 laptop does not want to work. Should it?

How do I use a networked optical drive in windows 10

I use a Lenova Yoga (no optical drive) and am considering upgrading to a Surface Pro. I would like to be able to use a networked tower pc's optical drive to play music and movies. The issue with the predominant solution is that networked disc drives appear
as folder directories that aren't recognized by most media players, i.e. can't rip a cd to my home library, can't play a movie while I work.

I know that Apple has a utility that allows me to do exactly this mac products, as they now lack optical drives as well, but looking to see if there's any update or third-party option to allow this to happen.

As I don't generally have to write to a disc, if there is a way to share the optical drive of an Xbox One S so that it appears under my networked devices whenever a non-Xbox disc is loaded, I will also entertain that workaround.
